Unleashed: Ford Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon Edition — A Carbon Fiber Terror on Wheels

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD introduces its most extreme iteration yet: the Liquid Carbon Edition. This specialized version takes the already track-focused Mustang GTD to new levels of lightweighting and visual aggression by celebrating carbon fiber, a material extensively used in its construction. Unlike the standard GTD where carbon fiber body parts are typically painted, the Liquid Carbon edition features exposed carbon fiber bodywork across key components, resulting in a unique aesthetic and a reduction of approximately 13 pounds (nearly 6 kg) from its curb weight compared to a standard GTD Carbon Series equipped with the Performance Pack.
A significant part of this weight reduction comes from an innovative engineering solution: the replacement of the regular GTD's metal door skins with carbon fiber versions. These new carbon fiber door skins are meticulously bonded to the metal door frames using the same advanced process employed for attaching the rear quarter panels to the GTD's body. This specific carbon fiber door skinning process is exclusive to the Liquid Carbon edition, ensuring it remains the lightest GTD variant available.
Beyond its exposed carbon fiber, the Liquid Carbon Edition integrates several other distinctive design elements to enhance its menacing appearance. To create visual harmony with the predominantly black, exposed carbon fiber on the doors, fenders, bumpers, deck lid, roof, and hood, Ford has utilized a unique body color named “Alloy.” This color is applied to elements such as the roof rails, door handles, door sills, and turn signal surrounds. The standard Brembo brake calipers are also finished in an exclusive black with a gloss-black “GTD” logo. Furthermore, the Liquid Carbon edition comes standard with the Performance Package, which includes new dive planes, a larger splitter, a DRS (Drag Reduction System) flap for the rear wing, underbody flaps, and the removal of sound deadening for an even more visceral driving experience.
Attention to detail extends to the carbon fiber weave itself. Ford has meticulously matched the parting line and weave pattern of the exposed carbon fiber on the hood, roof, bumpers, and decklid. This creates a distinctive chevron look in the exposed weave, providing an equal and directional split between the right and left halves of the vehicle. This design consistency is carried through to other panels with angled top weaves, ensuring a harmonious visual flow across the entire car. While carbon fiber is often discussed in terms of directional strength, the top decorative layer, as seen on the Liquid Carbon’s exposed panels, does not compromise the material’s structural integrity.
Inside, the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon Edition retains the core interior design of the standard GTD but introduces exclusive touches. The seats are upholstered in a unique combination of premium leather and Dinamica suede, highlighted with striking Hyper Lime contrast stitching and a reflective center gradient running down the middle of the seats. The rest of the interior materials, including the door cards, center console, dash, and steering wheel, are finished in similar black suede, leather, and Hyper Lime accents, creating a cohesive and sporty cockpit.
Under the hood, the Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon Edition is powered by a ferocious 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine, unleashing 804 horsepower to the rear wheels. This formidable powertrain contributes to its status as the fastest production Mustang and, for a period, the fastest Ford ever, even briefly holding the record for the fastest American car around the infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife before being surpassed by the Corvette ZR1X. This vehicle is not merely a car; it's designed to be the
