Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) data shows that inflation in June 2025 remained high at 3.8%.
KNBS reported that the consumer price level increased during the month compared to the level reported in June 2024.
The bureau attributed the rise in inflation to an increase in prices of basic commodities, including food, transport and electricity.
"This implies that the general price level was 3.8% higher in June 2025 than it was in June 2024. The price increase was primarily driven by a rise in prices of items in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (6.6%); Transport (3.2%), and Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and other fuels (0.2%) in the past 12 months," read the report in part.
According to the report, the prices of basic food commodities like unga and sugar increased significantly in the past 12 months
Maize flour retailed at an average of KSh 160.22 per 2kg pack in June 2025, compared to KSh 134.89 reported in June 2024.
A kilogramme of sugar retailed at KSh 184.13, up from KSh 168.59 reported during the same period under review.

House rent per month increased from an average of KSh 4,102.95 in June 2024 to KSh 4,176.85.
Meanwhile, prices of electricity, cooking gas and petroleum products reduced during the same period under review.
Kenyans using 50kWh of electricity paid KSh 1,280.96 in June 2025 compared to KSh 1,320.73 in June 2024.
A 13 kg cooking gas cylinder refilled at KSh 3,134.91, down from KSh 3,213.97 during the same period.
Price per litre of super petrol dropped from an average of KSh 190.46 to KSh 178.19.
