Unclaimed Driver's Licences in Ondo

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ondo State Command, has issued a statement revealing that a substantial number of driver's licenses remain uncollected by applicants. According to Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, the FRSC State Sector Commander, a staggering 6,038 driver’s licenses are currently unclaimed in the state.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Akure, Dr. Ibitoye provided a detailed breakdown of the situation. He explained that 7,213 licenses were carried over from 2024 to 2025. Furthermore, an additional 3,097 licenses were received from the production plant between January and the present date. This brings the total number of available licenses to 10,038.
"So far, we have received a total of 10,038 driver’s licences. However, only 4,272 have been collected," Dr. Ibitoye stated. "This means that 6,038 driver’s licences are still lying unclaimed at the Driver’s Licence Center under the Ondo State Board of Internal Revenue."
The Sector Commander is urging all applicants who have not yet collected their licenses to visit the Board of Internal Revenue office in Alagbaka, Ondo State, to claim them promptly. Dr. Ibitoye expressed concern over the number of uncollected licenses, highlighting the disconnect between public perception and reality.
"Many people go around complaining that their driver’s licences have not been produced by the FRSC, yet we have thousands of uncollected licences sitting idle at our centers," he noted.
Dr. Ibitoye emphasized the critical importance of possessing a valid driver’s license, which he described as the only legal document authorizing individuals to operate vehicles on Nigerian roads. He warned that drivers found without a valid license will face legal sanctions.
"An unlicenced driver has no right to operate a vehicle on public roads. If such a person gets involved in an accident, the law will not be lenient," he cautioned.
Appealing to those who are currently driving without a valid license, Dr. Ibitoye urged them to regularize their documents without delay. He stressed the serious consequences of driving without a license.
"Driving without a licence is a serious offence. It not only makes you an impostor on the road, but if anything happens, you may not escape the consequences under the law," he added. The FRSC is committed to ensuring road safety and compliance with traffic regulations in Ondo State, and the collection of these licenses is a crucial step in achieving that goal.
