Uganda Unveils Luxury: Museveni Commissions Cheptegei's Shs26bn Hotel

President Museveni officially commissioned a new hotel in Kapchorwa District, an investment by Uganda's renowned long-distance runner and multiple international medalist, Joshua Cheptegei. The commissioning ceremony celebrated Cheptegei's significant move into the hospitality sector, utilizing his athletic earnings to foster national development.

During the event, President Museveni extended his congratulations and commendation to Cheptegei, highlighting the wisdom of his investment. The President assured Cheptegei of government support, stating, "So, we are going to support him. We are not allowed to make pledges during elections, but in principle, we have been supporting other people like manufacturers and even hotels, so we shall support him. The policy is already there."

Cheptegei explained his decision to establish the hotel in his home district, emphasizing his goal to align with Uganda's national development objectives and generate employment opportunities for the local community. He projected that the fully operational hotel would create over 400 job opportunities. Currently, the project, which commenced in February, already employs over 100 individuals.

The world champion further disclosed that the investment is valued at Shs26 billion in total, with the first phase costing Shs13 billion. Reflecting on his journey, Cheptegei shared, "Your Excellency, I'm your student and I think I'm getting it fairly right. This project is from the savings I have been earning. I first bought land in 2017 and added on it gradually." He also expressed profound gratitude to President Museveni for his unwavering support to Ugandan athletes, attributing much of their success to such encouragement.

In response, President Museveni reiterated the government's steadfast commitment to supporting Ugandans who engage in productive investments. He stressed that initiatives like Cheptegei's hotel are vital contributors to job creation and regional development across the country.
