U.K. Chart Dominance: Sam Fender & Olivia Dean Set Historic No. 1 Record!

Sam Fender and Olivia Dean's collaboration, "Rein Me In," has achieved an unprecedented milestone, securing its 22nd non-consecutive week at the pinnacle of the U.K.'s Official Singles Chart, as published on August 21. This remarkable achievement makes "Rein Me In" the longest-running No. 1 song of all time in the U.K., effectively surpassing the previous record of 18 weeks held by Frankie Lane with "I Believe" back in 1953.

The song's extraordinary 22-week reign has seen multiple long-standing chart records shattered. Earlier in its run, after 16 weeks, it became the longest-running No. 1 of the 21st century and also the longest-running ever by a British act. These feats saw it surpass Drake's "One Dance" from 2016 and Wet Wet Wet's "Love Is All Around" from 1995, respectively, cementing its place in British music history.

Discussing the ongoing success of the track, Capitol Music Group's CEO Tom March, who signed Fender to Polydor, shared his insights with Billboard. March expressed strong predictions for the Geordie-born artist's potential to break into the U.S. market. Following Sam Fender and Olivia Dean's performance at Lollapalooza, "Rein Me In" has climbed to a new peak of No. 50 on the Billboard Hot 100. March emphasized his approach to artist development, stating, "Artists build in a different way. My job is to understand how the artist wants to move and build a campaign and work with them, so they achieve their dreams. They do it in a way that’s comfortable for them and a way that they want to do it." He also highlighted the song's significant traction on TikTok in America over the past three to four months, noting, "He’s building a whole new audience. It’s a steady pace."

Meanwhile, other notable tracks on the U.K. chart include "Dai Dai" by Shakira and Burna Boy, which held steady at No. 2. Ella Langley's "Choosin' Texas" claimed the No. 3 spot, followed by "Movin' to the Sun" from Hugel, Imael Angel, and Ultra Naté. Stella Lefty's "Boston" made a significant leap of four places to No. 4, marking a new career high for the artist, while Sheffield DJ Silva Bumpa's "On 2nite" moved up one spot to No. 9, also achieving a career best.

Further down the chart, Tame Impala's "Loser" (No. 11) and Steve Lacy's "Oh yeah?" (No. 18) continued to enjoy boosts in popularity. These gains are attributed to their respective synchs in the recent release, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," demonstrating the impact of media placements on chart performance.
