Two men jailed for 30 years for sodomising minor, infecting him with HIV

Naivasha Bar Dispute
The Bars, Hotels, and Liquor Traders Association (BAHLITA), along with a member of the Nakuru Assembly, has given the prison department a one-week ultimatum to shut down its bar in Naivasha town. According to BAHLITA national chairman Boniface Gachoka and Lakeview MCA Alex Mbugua, the establishment poses a threat to local businesses due to its ability to sell liquor at lower prices, allegedly sourced from military barracks without proper licensing or duty payments. Bar owners have threatened to withhold liquor license payments to the county if the bar remains open. Mbugua estimates that the county could lose over Sh100 million in liquor licenses. A senior prison officer defended the bar, stating it operates within the law and is located within the penal institution.
Kericho Sodomy Case
Ezekiel Tanui and Derick Kirui have each been sentenced to 30 years in prison for repeatedly sodomizing a 16-year-old minor and infecting him with HIV. The crimes occurred between October 20, 2023, and November 17, 2023, in Baraka Village, Kericho. The victim, who had come to Kericho for Mashujaa Day celebrations, was offered shelter by Tanui and subsequently subjected to repeated assaults by both Tanui and Kirui. Kericho Principal Magistrate Frederick Nyakundi stated that the prosecution had proven the case beyond a reasonable doubt, relying on the consistent and corroborated testimony of the victim. The accused have been given 14 days to appeal the judgment.
