Clara Cheptoo was among the thousands of candidates who sat for their final secondary school examination last year.
Cheptoo sat for her national examination at Kipsitet Day Secondary School in Kericho county.
She delivered a moving speech narrating the education challenges she experienced that fueled her to work hard.
"I got a B stand," she said as the audience halted her speech with celebratory claps. I tried and worked hard. I used to study until I got headaches. I would take out my Bible, pray, and then continue to study," she humbly said, with her mum beside her.
She praised her principal, who encouraged her to work hard and highlighted her dire needs back home.
Cheptoo said the principal reminded her of the state of her family, especially her mother, who had no land or house of her own.
Cheptoo's principal encouraged her not to drop the ball as she wanted to see her build a house for her mother.
"Even with a humble background, we worked hard. I have been praying for God to bless me and my mum. I want to help her and others," she said as her voice cracked.
Her emotional story moved Kenyans as they reacted in the comment section.
Geoffrey K. Maritim:
"This girl must get all the bursaries and assistance possible because the next stage can be harrowing without finances. She must be protected so that her dreams are realised!"
Stephen Mukangai:
"So touching. God bless her for me."
Rebecca Ayak Diing Ajak:
"Good cannot abandon His people. His name be praised always."
Lenny Lenny:
"God is very faithful in every situation. God is indeed a provider."
MERCY MEDIA KE:
"You're a very wise girl. You must go far. Dedication to God has helped you and is taking you far."
In another story, a mother of three from Kapsumet village in Kericho county, scored an impressive B plain in the 2024 KCSE exam.
Martha Chebet’s success brought immense joy to her family and the community, marking a significant milestone in her academic journey.
She got married in 2008 while in Form Two, noting that her husband had sympathy for her.
The young mother said she planned to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education, combining biology and agriculture.
