Twitch Takedown! Carter Efe Becomes Africa's Top Streamer After Davido Collab
Nigerian content creator and musician, Oderhohwo Efe, popularly known as Carter Efe, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming Africa's most-followed streamer on Twitch. This continental record was secured following a highly successful livestream event featuring Afrobeats superstar Davido, which dramatically boosted Efe's follower count.
The surge in followers allowed Carter Efe to surpass fellow Nigerian creator Adesokan Emmanuel, known as Shank Comics, who previously held the benchmark for approximately six months. As confirmed by Vanguard, Efe's follower count rapidly ascended to over 405,000 on Twitch, eclipsing Shank Comics' current total of around 233,000 followers.
Carter Efe's growth was particularly striking, demonstrating an impressive acquisition of roughly 160,000 new followers within just four days. This substantial spike is directly attributed to the anticipation and execution of his high-profile Twitch session with Davido, which took place on a Wednesday.
The collaborative livestream with Davido not only propelled Carter Efe to a new record but also established several other milestones. Davido reportedly set a new record for the most-watched Twitch livestream in Africa, attracting an astounding 83,000 viewers. Furthermore, he became the first African streamer to exceed 20,000 subscribers on the popular platform.
During the engaging livestream, Davido facilitated connections between Carter Efe and various high-profile personalities. These interactions included calls to his wife, renowned nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest, and a direct call-out to Twitch CEO Dan Clancy. Adding a unique sporting dimension to the broadcast, Davido also phoned Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, much to the delight of the viewers.
The stream further erupted into live entertainment when fellow content creator Enzo made a surprise appearance. Enzo humorously challenged Carter Efe to an impromptu boxing match, playfully suggesting it would 'prove' Efe's loyalty to Davido's 30BG fan base. This memorable moment quickly went viral, sparking widespread reactions across various social media platforms.
