TSC announces retooling of teachers ahead 2026 senior school rollout

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced a nationwide retooling exercise for senior school teachers in Competency-Based Education (CBE), scheduled to take place from 28th July to 15th August 2025.

The retooling targets teachers currently serving in regular secondary schools, Special Needs Education (SNE) institutions, and vocational institutions who are expected to handle Grades 10 to 12 under the newly introduced pathways of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), social sciences, and arts and sports.

According to an internal memo addressed to Regional and County Directors, the training will be conducted face-to-face at designated venues across all counties.

The selection of participants will be based on the number of teachers on duty at each institution.

“The target participants for retooling are senior school teachers, regular and SNEs who will handle aged and staged based learners in the pathways offered in the CBE curriculum”, the memo reads.

A total of 55 subjects will be covered across the three senior school pathways.

Last month, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba disclosed that Ksh980 million had been earmarked for the initiative.

He reassured that the government remains committed to ensuring a smooth transition of the current Grade 9 learners to senior school next year and would provide the necessary resources to support the process.
