Truck driver dies months after physical assault at Arizona rest area
A truck driver has passed away from injuries sustained during an attack at a rest area in Cochise County, Arizona, earlier this year.
Truck driver Jack Chen, 58, died at a hospital in Tucson on July 6 after several months in a coma, according to local outlet KVOA.
Chen was assaulted on February 15, 2025, at the westbound I-10 rest stop near San Simon, Arizona.
During a 911 call made after the attack, Chen reportedly stated that “a truck driver hurt me a lot.”
When the arrived on the scene, they found Chen suffering from critical injuries, including major brain trauma.
Chen was airlifted to a hospital, where he remained in a coma for months before finally succumbing to his injuries.
In June, police identified truck driver Azizbek Akhadov, 41, as a suspect in the attack. A warrant was issued, but authorities believe that Akhadov fled to Uzbekistan. Police are working with Interpol to try to bring Akhadov back to the U.S.
Chen’s wife Jennifer Chen has requested that the Arizona Department of Transportation install security cameras at state rest areas to prevent further crime.
