Travel Giant Etraveli Unleashes New Fintech Powerhouse 'Precision'!

Etraveli Group has officially rebranded its internal risk management solution, Precision, transforming it into the group's dedicated travel fintech division. This strategic repositioning, announced on October 6, 2026, significantly expands Precision's original scope beyond mere fraud controls. It now functions as a standalone B2B fintech provider, aiming to serve a broader clientele including airlines, online travel agencies (OTAs), and global travel businesses, establishing its own commercial identity within the industry.

Led by Peny Rizou, who serves as both chief fintech officer of Etraveli Group and head of Precision, the newly refreshed division is launching with two primary named products. The first, Precision Fraud Prevention, leverages advanced machine learning models. These models are meticulously trained on extensive travel-specific transaction data, enabling clients to approve a higher proportion of legitimate bookings while effectively mitigating and containing fraud-related losses. The second product, Precision Travel Flexibility, introduces a sophisticated decisioning layer. This allows travel companies to offer highly contextual cancellation and change options, dynamically adjusting eligibility criteria and pricing at the individual booking level. This capability is designed to boost attachment rates and safeguard profit margins.

Etraveli Group emphasizes that both products have been developed with a deep understanding of the unique structural realities of the travel sector. These include inherently thin margins, high volumes of cancellations, and a significant exposure to card-not-present fraud, all of which pose substantial challenges for businesses operating in this space. Peny Rizou highlighted the move as a strategic external commercialization of capabilities that Etraveli had meticulously honed over two decades for internal use. This evolution into a specialized fintech arm provides airlines, OTAs, and travel partners with access to a 'travel-native intelligence' that can convert challenges like fraud and cancellation risks into scalable, profit-generating strategies.

Precision has already established significant distribution relationships, partnering with key players in the global flight booking and payments infrastructure such as Outpayce by Amadeus, Mastercard Gateway, Sabre, and Checkout.com. These collaborations collectively ensure substantial market coverage for its offerings. While Etraveli did not disclose specific revenue figures attributable to Precision, nor the precise split between its internal group usage and third-party client contracts, its market positioning is clear.

The travel payments and fraud-prevention segment is currently attracting considerable fintech interest. This surge is driven by airlines and OTAs seeking to reclaim margins eroded by high chargeback rates and the operational costs associated with flexible ticketing rules, which became widespread during the pandemic. Precision operates in a competitive landscape, facing specialist vendors like Forter, Signifyd, and Riskified in the transaction-level fraud decisioning space across various verticals. However, Precision's stated differentiation lies in its domain specificity: its machine learning models are trained exclusively on travel data, rather than broader cross-vertical datasets. The company asserts that this approach significantly improves approval accuracy, especially for the often irregular purchase patterns characteristic of flight bookings.

The Travel Flexibility product places Etraveli in a narrower, yet expanding, category. With regulators in regions like the EU and UK maintaining or even tightening consumer rights regarding flight disruption, airlines are under commercial pressure. They increasingly need to package flexibility as an upsell opportunity rather than absorbing it solely as a liability. A dynamic decisioning layer that can price and distribute these options carries substantial revenue-share potential, a dimension that fraud tooling alone typically does not offer.

Etraveli Group's structural advantage stems from its massive captive transaction volume. The group processes flight bookings for major platforms such as Booking.com, Google Flights, Skyscanner, and Kayak, and also operates its own consumer OTA brands including Gotogate and Mytrip. This proprietary data estate provides a robust foundation for Precision's machine learning claims, a resource that pure-play vendors without comparable volume cannot easily replicate. However, the long-term durability of this advantage will depend on Precision's ability to demonstrate superior model performance compared to general-purpose fraud tools for external clients who may already have existing vendor relationships.

Etraveli Group is backed by prominent private equity firms CVC Capital Partners and KKR. The group employs over 3,200 people across 11 offices and serves more than 48 million travelers annually across over 75 markets. The group did not provide any indication whether Precision is being positioned for a separate capital raise or an eventual spin-out, nor did it disclose if the repositioning is accompanied by any changes in headcount or cost structure within the division.
