Trans Nzoia First Lady Recounts Ordeal in the Hands of EACC Detectives during Raid on their House
Trans Nzoia First Lady Lilian Natembeya has, for the first time, opened up about the events that unfolded when detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) raided their home in Milimani, Kitale town.

The raid was part of EACC’s probe into alleged corruption involving Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya.
EACC detectives raided Natembeya’s house on May 19, 2025, an exercise that was marred by chaotic scenes as a group of youths stormed the compound and deflated vehicles that the officers had arrived with.
However, aside from the chaos witnessed outside the house, the governor’s wife claimed that the officers were not professional in the manner in which they executed the search warrant at the house.
She claimed the officers harassed her and also ransacked the house.
"When they came, they really harassed me. They were yelling at me,” she recounted.
According to the first lady, at the time EACC detectives entered the house, she was alone there, and the officers took away several private items, some of which have never been returned to date.
“I knew the governor was coming from Nairobi, so I prepared chicken for him, which they poked their fingers in. They entered our bedroom and caused mayhem, took away our pants, and they have never indicated when they would return them,” she noted.
The county's first lady said it was only after the governor arrived that the officers started acting humble.
She also appreciated leaders from the county who stood in solidarity with Natembeya during the controversial raid.
“I really want to thank county officials, including my husband’s cabinet and political leaders, who came that early. When the officers saw them, they pretended to be humble and finally went back, though with my food and underpants as I have said,” she noted.
EACC had initially accused Natembeya of involvement in a KSh 1.4 billion graft. However, when he was presented in court, he was accused of receiving KSh 3.2 million kickbacks, allegedly from tenders awarded for several county projects, including that of Tom Mboya Hospital.

The governor has since pleaded not guilty to all the charges levelled against him. He was released on bail, but barred from accessing his offices for 60 days, to allow the conclusion of investigations into the case.
Previously, reported that Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi had condemned EACC over the raid on Natembeya's home.
Amisi noted that EACC's use of anti-riot police officers during the raid was draconian.
He also noted that the move was demeaning to the family.
