Music World Mourns Lil Poppa After Suicide Announcement

Rapper Janarious Mykel Wheeler, professionally known as Lil Poppa, tragically passed away at the age of 25.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that his death was a suicide due to a gunshot wound to the head, following an autopsy on February 19th.

The news sparked an outpouring of grief across the hip-hop community, with artists such as Boosie Badazz, Mozzy, Dej Loaf, and Nardo Wick sharing heartfelt tributes to the Jacksonville rapper.

Just days before his passing, Lil Poppa had released his single “Out of Town Bae” on February 13th.

He had also been actively touring in 2025 and had a Birthday Bash show scheduled for March in New Orleans, highlighting his ongoing musical momentum and future plans.

In 2022, he signed with Yo Gotti’s CMG Records, releasing several projects including his Almost Normal Again album last August.

CMG expressed deep sorrow, stating:

“We are stunned and devastated by the loss of our beloved family member, Janarious ‘Lil Poppa’ Wheeler.

Throughout his career,Lil Poppa achieved significant Billboard success.

His project Blessed, I Guess reached No. 160 on the Billboard 200 in May 2021, Under Investigation 3 charted at No. 194 in May 2022, and Heavy is the Head peaked at No. 4 on the Heatseekers Albumschart in November 2022, cementing his impact on the music scene.
