Tragedy Strikes Zimbabwe: Fatal Crash Leaves One Dead, Seventeen Injured
A fatal road traffic accident occurred in Harare on Saturday, November 1, 2025, underscoring the ongoing issue of motorists disregarding traffic rules and regulations. The collision, which took place at the busy intersection of Josiah Tongogara Avenue and Leopold Takawira Street, resulted in one fatality and left 17 others injured.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the tragic incident. According to preliminary investigations, the accident involved a Toyota Regius commuter omnibus, which was transporting 15 passengers along Leopold Takawira Road towards the Central Business District (CBD), and a Nissan Vanette vehicle, which was travelling along Josiah Tongogara Road in the direction of Dzivarasekwa.
The cause of the collision was attributed to the Nissan Vanette, which reportedly went through a red traffic light at the robot-controlled intersection. The immediate consequence of this disregard for traffic signals was the death of one passenger from the commuter omnibus at the scene. All 17 injured individuals, along with the body of the deceased victim for post-mortem examination, were subsequently referred to Parirenyatwa Hospital for necessary medical attention and procedures.
