Tragedy Strikes: Teenager, 16, Dies in Pedestrian Crossing Crash, Fundraiser Launched

A community in south Manchester is mourning the tragic loss of 16-year-old Alfie Moran, who died after being struck by a car while crossing Kingsway in Burnage. The devastating incident occurred last Friday, January 2, around 6:40 PM, when Alfie, a pedestrian, was fatally collided with by a driver in a Seat Ibiza.
Alfie sustained serious injuries in the collision and was immediately rushed to hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds. Authorities from Greater Manchester Police (GMP)'s Serious Collisions Unit have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. An 18-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released on bail as enquiries continue.
Alfie's mother, Shelley, has paid a deeply emotional tribute to her son, describing him as a 'special boy with the biggest heart'. She expressed her profound grief, stating she would be 'forever lost' without him, and that losing him has left their family 'broken'. In a public Facebook post on Saturday, January 3, she shared her heartbreak, noting that her heart was 'completely broken' and she had to say goodbye to Alfie in the early hours surrounded by loved ones, for which she was 'FOREVER grateful'. She fondly recalled his hug and his 'silly voice' saying 'love youuuu' before he left, adding that he made her the 'proudest mumma in the whole world'.
Family members universally remembered Alfie for his kindness and loving nature. His mother highlighted that everyone who knew him considered him 'the best boy', and she was immensely proud of him. He was cherished as 'the best friend to everyone'. Alfie had many plans for the year, including his passion for gaming and motorbikes, for which he had already begun saving to purchase his first bike. Demmi Moran also shared a heartbreaking tribute, lamenting that Alfie was 'taken from us way too soon at just 16', calling him 'the most loving Boy' with 'a heart of Gold'.
In response to the tragedy, a fundraiser was swiftly organised by Alfie's relative, Mario Conway, to provide support for his family during this unimaginably difficult time and to assist with his send-off. Conway eloquently expressed the pain of the situation, stating, 'It doesn't get any worse than this. It's the start of a new year and no parent should have to deal with the loss of their child.' The initiative aimed to ease the family's burden and demonstrate the widespread love for Alfie. By Sunday evening, January 4, almost £3,000 had been raised online, reflecting the outpouring of community support and tributes for the teenager.
Officers from GMP's Serious Collisions Unit are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. This appeal specifically includes individuals who witnessed the collision or possess any CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage. DC Antrobus of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit conveyed his deepest sympathies, stating his thoughts were 'first and foremost with the family of the young boy who sadly lost his life'. The family is receiving support from specialist officers, and their privacy is requested during their period of grief. The police encourage the local community, which has been left shocked and saddened, to assist by contacting the SCIU directly on 0161 856 4741, or via GMP's Live Chat service at gmp.police.uk, quoting log 2622 of 02.01.2026. Alternatively, anonymous information can be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
