Tragedy Strikes: Nollywood Actor & Rapper Cjay Passes Away

The Nigerian entertainment industry has been plunged into mourning following the untimely death of Nollywood actor Chijioke "Cjay" Nwokafor. The sad news was shared by his colleague, actress Nkechi Blessing, who posted emotional videos with the late actor on Instagram on Wednesday.

Nkechi Blessing revealed her profound shock and grief, stating that she had spoken with Cjay early on Wednesday morning, only to receive confirmation of his death from a hospital a few hours later. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Blessing wrote, "Cjay Nwoke Oma, so this is really the end? Omo we had plans. I spoke to you at 8 a.m. today and a few hours later you are no more with us. Omo please return if possible because I refuse to type otherwise and this is too much for me to handle." To honor Cjay, who also featured in her film, Blessing cancelled the scheduled 5 p.m. release of her movie, "Egusi Ogbono."

As of press time, the specific cause of Cjay's death has not been disclosed by actress Nkechi Blessing, and his family and colleagues have yet to release further details or announce funeral arrangements.

Cjay, an Anambra-born actor, began his acting career in 2021 and quickly made a mark in the industry, featuring in several films. His notable works include "Larry Cold," "Mum Overnight," "A Day to My Wedding," and "The Lies She Tell," among others. He was also part of the cast for Nkechi Blessing's "Egusi Ogbono."

In a September 21 interview with Trybe TV, Cjay recounted how his initial experience on a film set with filmmaker Ruth Kadiri profoundly influenced his decision to pursue acting professionally. He was inspired by the demeanor and professionalism of the actors he observed. Cjay also addressed public perception of his personality, acknowledging that some considered him arrogant, an impression he felt did not accurately reflect his true self.

In the wake of his passing, two of Cjay's recent Instagram posts from September 23 and 12 have garnered renewed attention from his fans and colleagues. In one poignant post, he wrote, "No pressure, lifestyle cost na you no know." Another reflective message stated, "Life's too short to be unhappy, live every minute like it's your last. Live, love, laugh." These messages offer a glimpse into his outlook on life and now serve as a touching tribute from his digital presence.
