Kwara Security Crisis: Five Forest Guards Killed in Bandit Attack on PMF Camp

The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed a coordinated attack by armed bandits on the Police Mobile Force (PMF) Camp in Nuku Village, Kaiama Local Government Area, which occurred in the early hours of April 10, 2026.

During the assault, five members of the National Forest Guards were killed. The attackers struck around 03:45hrs, damaging a police patrol vehicle before being repelled by personnel stationed at the camp.

Security authorities have described the incident as a serious breach and confirmed that tactical and intelligence-led operations have been launched to track down the perpetrators.

The police also assured residents that the situation is under close surveillance to prevent further attacks, urging community members to support ongoing investigations with useful information.

The attack has drawn widespread condemnation, with calls for justice for the slain forest guards described as gallant officers who died in active service.

Sympathy has also been extended to their families and the wider Kaiama community, alongside appeals for calm, unity, and strengthened cooperation between residents and security agencies to address rising insecurity.

The incident adds to a pattern of repeated violent attacks in the region, following an earlier invasion of nearby communities in March 2026 that resulted in multiple deaths and the abduction of over 170 people who remain in captivity.

The recurring assaults shows the ongoing security challenges in the area and the urgent need for sustained counter-insurgency efforts.
