Tragedy Strikes: Jasmine Harman's Husband Battles Heart Attack During Renovation!

Jasmine Harman, the beloved presenter of "A Place In The Sun," has revealed the harrowing experience of her husband Jon suffering a heart attack at the age of 45. This shocking event unfolded amidst their ongoing Spanish home renovation project in Estepona, which they have been documenting for a new Channel 4 series. The dramatic scenes aired this afternoon, showing Jon being rushed to hospital where doctors confirmed he had experienced a heart attack.

Jon's medical emergency is particularly poignant given his family's history of heart problems. He had previously disclosed that heart issues run in his family, a tragic reality underscored by the unexpected passing of his sister Jo in 2016 at just 40 years old due to sudden arrhythmic death syndrome. A few weeks after that tragedy, in May, Jon himself endured a heart attack. This was compounded by an earlier health concern in January, when he fractured his left leg during a game of padel tennis and subsequently developed thrombosis during his recovery.

In an exclusive interview, Jasmine shared that Jon is thankfully recovering, though the frightening incident has profoundly reshaped her perspective on life. This reevaluation comes after a period of significant personal loss for Jasmine, including the death of her close friend and fellow "A Place In The Sun" host, Jonnie Irwin, who succumbed to cancer in February 2024 at 50. The couple is also mourning the passing of Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers, with whom Jon had worked for years; Myers' widow, Lili, even visited their renovation project during its earlier stages.

Jasmine, who is celebrating her 50th birthday this week, confessed that Jon's heart attack was the primary reason behind the intense demands and challenges of their renovation project, which she had previously hinted was a 'nightmare.' She now reveals that the experience has transformed her from a 'control freak' to someone who can navigate life's uncertainties with greater ease. She emphasizes the inability to control life's events, only one's responses to them, stating she now goes with the flow and avoids letting things bother her as much as before.

Recalling the moment Jon, now 46, began to feel unwell in May, Jasmine described him saying he felt "funny and strange" after lunch. He then became agitated, experienced a tightening in his chest, had trouble breathing, and found everything touching him annoying. Despite the added concern of his recent thrombosis, Jasmine remained remarkably composed. "I don't know why, something inside me was saying: 'don't panic, it's going to be fine'. I was very calm," she stated, immediately calling an ambulance.

Upon their arrival at the Spanish hospital, medics quickly reassured Jon. They confirmed a mild heart attack and initiated a series of tests. Given Jon's family history, he had already been undergoing regular screenings. Now, further investigations, medication, and continuous monitoring are in place to manage his condition and ensure his ongoing health.

The frightening episode has imparted invaluable lessons to Jasmine, teaching her not to fret over trivial matters. She reflects on how responses shape one's experience and contrasts her past tendency to get stressed over minor inconveniences, like being late for school drop-offs, with her current calm acceptance of unavoidable situations. She also advocates for taking chances and risks, like their move to Spain, believing it's essential to dream big and follow one's heart.

Jasmine also highlighted the indispensable support of her mother, Vasoulla, who flew from the UK to be with the family during their hour of need. Reflecting on the period when Jon also broke his leg, Jasmine admitted she wouldn't have managed without her mother's presence, which allowed her to release pressure and stress, focusing on addressing challenges without overwhelming herself or burning out.

Despite the immense challenges they have faced, Jasmine firmly states they have no regrets about their decision to relocate to Spain. This move was partly influenced by the sudden loss of Jon's sister nine years ago. They are now thoroughly enjoying their lifestyle in Spain, engaging in activities they wouldn't have pursued if they had remained in London, and deeply appreciating their new life.

Looking ahead, Jasmine remains open-minded about their future, embracing a "go with the flow" philosophy. She acknowledges missing friends but celebrates the new friendships they've made and the children's happiness. Committed to savoring every moment of their Spanish adventure, she is also enthusiastic about recording fresh episodes of "A Place In The Sun." She even expressed a desire to help others transform old properties into their perfect retreats, emphasizing her love for the human stories behind the show and her eagerness to assist people in changing their lives and being brave.
