Tragedy Strikes: Dallas ICE Facility Under Fire, Multiple Casualties Confirmed

A fatal shooting occurred on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in Dallas. Authorities identified the shooter as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, who opened fire from a nearby roof onto the government building. The incident resulted in the deaths of two ICE detainees, with another detainee sustaining injuries and reported to be in critical condition. Law enforcement officials confirmed that no ICE agents or other law enforcement personnel were injured in the attack. The shooter subsequently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Dallas Police Department responded to reports of the shooting around 6:40 a.m. Wednesday, with Dallas Fire-Rescue also dispatched to the scene. Parkland Hospital in Dallas confirmed receiving two patients from the incident, though details regarding their conditions were not immediately available. The FBI has launched an investigation into the shooting, characterizing it as "an act of targeted violence." During a news conference, Joe Rothrock, head of the FBI field office in Dallas, revealed that ammunition found near the suspected shooter contained "ANTI-ICE" messaging, with one unspent shell casing reportedly engraved with the phrase.
Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin indicated that the shooter was believed to be targeting both law enforcement and detainees from an adjacent apartment building. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed multiple injuries and fatalities, stating that while the motive remained unclear, ICE law enforcement is facing "unprecedented violence." Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas noted that this marks the third shooting in Texas directed at ICE or Customs and Border Protection, condemning politically motivated violence. Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons assured that the scene was secure.
The incident has drawn strong reactions from various political figures. JD Vance, Deputy Director of the FBI, called it an "obsessive attack on law enforcement," though his uncorroborated allegation that the suspect was a "left-wing extremist" and politically motivated to target law enforcement has not been substantiated by ongoing investigations. Texas Governor Greg Abbott affirmed the state's support for ICE, stating the attack "will NOT slow our arrest, detention, & deportation of illegal immigrants." Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson urged residents to remain calm and allow law enforcement to conduct their investigation.
This attack adds to a pattern of targeted violence, including recent incidents against federal agencies in Texas. Previously, a July 4 attack at the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado injured a police officer, and on July 7, Ryan Louis Mosqueda fired an assault rifle at federal agents leaving a U.S. Border Patrol facility in McAllen, injuring an officer before he was killed. These events underscore a growing concern over attacks on immigration enforcement personnel and facilities.
