Tragedy Strikes 'American Idol': Executive & Husband Found Dead in Shocking Incident
An arrest has been made in connection with the fatal shooting of "American Idol" executive Robin Kaye and her husband, Thomas Deluca, both 70, who were found dead in their Encino home. Police announced on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, that 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian was arrested at his home and subsequently booked on suspicion of murder.
Robin Kaye, a music supervisor for the now-ABC-produced singing competition show more than a decade ago, was deeply mourned by the "American Idol" family. A spokesperson for the series issued a statement expressing devastation, noting that "Robin has been a cornerstone of the Idol family since 2009 and was truly loved and respected by all who came in contact with her. Robin will remain in our hearts forever and we share our deepest sympathy with her family and friends during this difficult time."
The victims were discovered early Monday morning after officers responded to a wellness check at their residence on the 4700 block of White Oak Avenue. Both Kaye and Deluca were pronounced dead at the scene, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds and found in separate rooms. The suspect reportedly fled the area on foot after the shooting.
During their investigation, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) detectives reviewed surveillance videos and interviewed friends and family. They uncovered a prior radio call for a possible burglary suspect at the same home on July 10, around 4 p.m. At that time, officers were unable to gain entry as the property was described as "highly fortified," according to LAPD Lieutenant Guy Golan. A flyover by an airship also did not reveal any obvious signs of trouble or forced entry, leading police to clear the scene.
However, subsequent review of surveillance footage from July 10 revealed the suspect had hopped a fence to enter the property. While initially no signs of forced entry were apparent, it is now believed the suspect gained entry through an unlocked door. Police theorize that Kaye and Deluca returned home while Boodarian was inside, leading to a confrontation that resulted in the shooting.
Boodarian was identified through security camera video and facial recognition software, leading to his arrest by LAPD detectives and members of an FBI Fugitive Task Force. Court records indicate that Boodarian has an extensive history of violent crimes, although charges in those previous cases were ultimately dropped. Authorities are asking anyone with additional information to contact LAPD detectives at (818) 374-9550.
