Tragedy Strikes Abuja: Footballer Victor Udoh Dies, Mother Accuses Girlfriend and Friends in Poisoning Drama

Victor Udoh, a promising young footballer who previously played for Southampton FC and Royal Antwerp FC, has tragically passed away at the age of 21. Reports from Mirror UK on Tuesday indicated that Udoh was found dead in Abuja, Nigeria, under what were described as suspicious circumstances. The specific cause of his death has not yet been officially confirmed.

Udoh had recently returned to Nigeria following the conclusion of his spell with Czech club SK Dynamo České Budějovice. He had joined the Czech club after departing Southampton in 2025. Both of his former clubs expressed their profound sorrow at his passing. Southampton FC announced his death in a post on X, stating, “We are devastated by the tragic passing of former player Victor Udoh at the age of 21. The thoughts of everyone at the club go out to Victor’s loved ones at this extremely difficult time.”

During his career, Victor Udoh spent approximately six months with Southampton’s academy, where he featured for the club’s under-21 side in Premier League 2 matches. Prior to his move to England, he played for Belgian club Royal Antwerp, having joined them from the Abuja-based Hypebuzz Academy. While at Royal Antwerp, he impressively scored 12 goals in 27 matches for their reserve side before making 28 appearances for the first team. Royal Antwerp also conveyed their condolences, stating, “With great dismay, RAFC has learned of the passing of former player Victor Udoh. Our thoughts are with Victor’s family, friends, and loved ones.”

A significant development has emerged regarding the circumstances of Udoh’s death. Paris-based sports journalist Ojora Babatunde disclosed that Victor Udoh’s mother reportedly had his friends and girlfriend arrested in Abuja. This action followed the footballer’s death, which is now suspected to be due to food or alcohol poisoning. Babatunde shared on X, “According to multiple reports, former Southampton F.C. and Royal Antwerp F.C. winger, Victor Udoh reportedly died in Abuja last night following suspected food or alcohol poisoning. The 21-year-old winger was believed to be on holiday at the time of the incident.” The situation remains a developing story as investigations continue.
