Trader Joe’s and Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc. have issued a massive recall of more than 3.3 million pounds of frozen chicken fried rice products. The recall was initiated due to potential contamination with a foreign material, specifically glass, prompting the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) to make the public announcement.
The affected products were produced between September 8, 2025, and November 17, 2025. This extensive recall involves approximately 3,370,530 pounds of frozen, not ready-to-eat (NRTE) chicken fried rice that were sold under both the Trader Joe's and Ajinomoto brand names. Consumers are strongly advised not to consume these products and should either discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
The Ajinomoto branded product involved in the recall is 'Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Fried Rice'. These items are packaged in 1.53 kg cardboard packages, each containing six individual bags. Consumers can identify these products by best-by dates ranging from 26 SE 09 through 26 NO 12 and the establishment number P-18356. Notably, the Ajinomoto items were exclusively exported to Canada.
For Trader Joe's customers, the recalled product is 'Trader Joe's Chicken Fried Rice with Stir-Fried Rice, Vegetables, Seasoned Dark Chicken Meat, and Eggs'. These are sold in 20 oz (1 lb 4 oz) plastic bags. The identifying best-by dates for the Trader Joe's products range from 9/8/2026 through 11/17/2026, and they also carry the establishment number P-18356. These Trader Joe’s items were shipped to and sold at Trader Joe’s retail locations nationwide.
The recall was prompted after the company received four separate customer complaints reporting the presence of glass in the products. Fortunately, as of the announcement, no injuries have been reported in connection with this recall. The FSIS emphasizes that retailers and customers who may still have these recalled products in their freezers should not consume them, but rather dispose of them immediately or return them to the point of purchase.
Customers with further questions or concerns regarding the Trader Joe's recall can contact Trader Joe's Customer Relations directly at (626) 599-3817. Additionally, customers have the option to submit a Product Feedback form through the company's official website.
