Tom Morello Unleashes Fiery New Solo Rock Album Featuring Bold Anti-Fascist & Anti-Racist Anthems

Tom Morello, known for his politically charged music, has released a new song titled “Date Night,” a track that defies typical romantic notions by paying homage to three young women who actively combated Nazis during World War II. This song is part of his newly announced album, “Everyone Gets Everything They Want,” which is slated for release on September 25.

“Date Night” features the powerful guitar work of Morello’s teenage son, Roman. The song is crafted from the perspectives of sisters Truus and Freddie Oversteegen, who, as teenagers, collaborated with their close friend Hannie Schaft. These women employed a daring strategy: they would seduce Nazi officers and then assassinate them in the woods. Beyond these bold actions, they were also involved in smuggling weapons, sabotaging railway lines, and aiding Jewish children in evading capture during the war.

Morello’s lyrics on the headbanging track vividly reflect their perilous missions: “I can’t believe it got this late, I must be getting home/ Perhaps you will escort me, I live a good ways down the road,” followed by the stark lines, “We killed them in the ditches, we killed them in the streets/ We killed them in the forest, in the fields and on the beach … It’s date night and I never felt so alive.”

The album “Everyone Gets Everything They Want” promises to continue Morello’s tradition of socially conscious music, featuring several anti-fascist songs. In a statement, the outspoken musician declared, “I make anti-racist songs for anti-racists. I make anti-fascist songs for anti-fascists. And I make anti-Nazi songs for anti-Nazis. ‘Date Night’ is really a ‘Which side are you on?’ song. If any of that offends you, do the math.”

This upcoming LP marks a significant milestone as Morello’s first-ever rock full-length as a soloist. While he has previously released solo albums under the moniker The Nightwatchman, three of which reached the Billboard 200, this new project solidifies his rock identity outside of his acclaimed work with Rage Against the Machine. As a member of Rage, Morello achieved significant success, including seven entries on the Billboard 200 and two No. 1 albums, “Evil Empire” (1996) and “The Battle of Los Angeles” (1999).

The album will include “Date Night” alongside previously released tracks such as “Adjourn It,” “Everything Burns” featuring Beartooth, “Pretend You Remember Me,” and “Soldier in the Army of Love.” Five of the tracks on the album will credit Roman Morello as a co-writer, and the project will also feature appearances by Serj Tankian and Kneecap.
