Tinubu Secures Dominant Victory in APC Presidential Primary Across Key States

The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary elections recently held in Kogi and Ogun States witnessed an overwhelming turnout of party faithful, signaling robust support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's potential re-election bid in the 2027 general election. The exercises were characterized by massive participation, long queues, and intense political enthusiasm, interpreted by party stakeholders as a clear endorsement of the President and his administration's policies.
In Kogi State, the Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Asiwaju Asiru Idris, highlighted the significant turnout in his Oke Meta, Ward 9 of Yagba East Local Government Area, as evidence of Nigerians’ confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership. Speaking after casting his vote, Asiru asserted that the impressive participation reflected a widespread belief that the administration is effectively steering the nation toward economic recovery and prosperity. He strongly advocated for continued support, stating, "Tinubu is the man to take the country to the land of prosperity. If not for his coming in 2023, the country would have been history." The Commissioner further noted that reports from across the country reinforced the sentiment that Nigerians are content with the President's performance, adding that significant progress has been recorded across various sectors since Tinubu assumed office.
Asiru Idris described the massive turnout as an outpouring of love and an indication of the APC's unity and strength, suggesting that the upcoming presidential election is "already taken." He urged both party members and citizens to remain united in supporting the administration's programs aimed at fostering economic growth, infrastructure development, and national stability, emphasizing that continuity is crucial for consolidating the gains of the President's first term. The APC primary in Kogi State was reportedly peaceful, with members receiving commendation for their orderly conduct.
Similarly, in Ogun State, the APC presidential primary, conducted across its three Senatorial districts, saw a substantial number of card-carrying members express their support for President Tinubu. The event was marked by cheers, enthusiasm, and optimism, with prominent state figures actively mobilizing for Tinubu's second term ambition. Among those who participated were the incumbent state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun; former governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun; and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, who represents Ogun West district. These leaders were observed as early voters at their respective wards, joining queues to cast their ballots in the direct primary method adopted by the party.
Senator Ibikunle Amosun, participating at Ward 6, Itoko in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, expressed his satisfaction with the conduct of the primary election, describing the process as "free and fair." He emphasized that his participation, amidst solidarity songs and a large crowd, was a show of respect and support for President Tinubu's re-election ahead of the 2027 polls. Amosun stated, "We are orderly and that is what it should and we are speaking with one voice. Everybody agreed that yes, we want our president to still continue his good."
Further underscoring the widespread support, Afolabi Afuape, the lawmaker representing Abeokuta South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, lauded the residents and party supporters in Ward 6 for their massive turnout. He characterized it as a strong indication of the President’s increasing acceptance among the populace and a clear vote of confidence in Tinubu’s leadership. Afuape also commended Senator Amosun's involvement, noting that it further demonstrated unity within the APC and collective support for the President. The strong showing in both states highlights a unified front within the APC and a perceived popular mandate for President Tinubu's ongoing leadership.
