Tinubu's Unstoppable Rise: APC Presidential Primary Dominates Headlines

President Bola Tinubu has overwhelmingly secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary tickets across several Nigerian states, affirming his candidacy for the upcoming 2027 general elections. The primaries, held on Saturday, saw widespread participation from party members and were largely characterized by peaceful conduct, unity, and a strong affirmation of confidence in President Tinubu's leadership.

In Akwa Ibom State, President Tinubu cleared the APC primaries across all 369 political wards in the 31 local government areas. Notably, at Oku II, Ward 11, Uyo LGA, delegates led by Council Chairman Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, secured a decisive victory for the President. The Returning Officer, Hon. Marshall Effiong, declared Tinubu the winner, commending the “peaceful and well-conducted exercise.” Dr. Udo, who also heads the State branch of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), thanked party faithful for their commitment and support, echoing earlier appeals from Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno. The member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency also applauded the seamless conduct and pledged overwhelming support for APC candidates in the federal constituency.

Similarly, Kogi State witnessed President Tinubu's emergence as the preferred candidate. Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo participated in the primary election at his Uporogo/Odenku Ward in Okene LGA, praising party officials for the peaceful exercise and expressing confidence in Tinubu's administration to bring greater prosperity to Kogi State and Nigeria. Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello also voted, commending President Tinubu's leadership style and ongoing reforms, which he believes are laying a solid foundation for economic growth, stability, and national unity. Both leaders urged APC members to remain united behind the President's vision ahead of the next general elections.

Enugu State also conducted its presidential primary election with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the sole aspirant. Large numbers of party members participated across the state's 260 electoral wards. Monitoring visits by correspondents indicated a largely peaceful and orderly process, which many participants, like Mr. Ignatius Uwakwe, described as smooth and transparent, reflecting internal unity within the party. At Ogui New Layout Ward 8, attendees commended President Tinubu's reforms, expressing optimism for positive results and confidence in the APC leadership and the direction of the federal government. The State Publicity Secretary, Uche Obute, confirmed the exercise was fair, orderly, and peaceful statewide, appreciating members' conduct and participation.

In Rivers State, Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, serving as the state collation officer, declared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu the winner of the APC presidential primary election with a landslide victory across all 23 local government areas. Fubara announced that Tinubu polled 280,082 votes, while his sole challenger, Stanley Osifo, recorded zero votes. Despite some minor inconsistencies in the reported vote totals read out during the collation process, the governor stressed the peaceful and well-coordinated nature of the process, attributing its success to “good planning.” He expressed satisfaction with the collation of results from all LGAs, certifying the accuracy of his records and confirming Tinubu's overwhelming sweep in the state.

Ekiti State also demonstrated strong support for President Tinubu, with Governor Mr. Biodun Oyebanji commending the massive turnout of members across 177 wards. This turnout, he noted, was a resounding vote of confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and a strong affirmation of the party’s unity and internal democracy. Governor Oyebanji, who participated in the affirmation exercise at his ward 6, Ikogosi-Ekiti, described the process as peaceful, orderly, and a true reflection of the party's commitment to deepening internal democracy. He highlighted the enthusiasm of party members, indicating unity and confidence in Tinubu's direction. Oyebanji termed the exercise historic as it was the first time all party members directly participated in selecting the presidential flag bearer, with his ward recording 620 votes in favor of President Tinubu out of 624 registered members. He expressed confidence in Tinubu's future landslide victory in the general elections, citing performance as a key yardstick for electoral success.

Finally, in Taraba State, President Bola Tinubu secured 183,698 votes across the 16 local government areas. Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, the Returning Officer, announced the results, confirming the process adhered to party guidelines and was transparent and peaceful. He urged APC members to remain united. Additionally, the Taraba State APC Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, revealed that all incumbent National Assembly members from the state secured return tickets unopposed, including Senators Haruna Manu, Shuaibu Isa Lau, and David Jimkuta, and five out of six House of Representatives members. Twenty-four members of the Taraba State House of Assembly also retained their tickets, with Hon. Emmanuel Bongo replacing Hon. Abel Peter Diah in the House of Representatives. Alhaji Bawa cautioned the public against unverified reports circulating on social media, emphasizing that only official party channels should be considered authentic and that any contrary claims should be disregarded entirely.
