Tinubu's Bold Cabinet Shake-Up: New Finance Minister Takes the Helm

President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, leading to significant changes within the Federal Executive Council (FEC). The reshuffle involves the exit of two ministers and the appointment of their replacements, a move aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance while enhancing the administration’s capacity to deliver more impactful economic outcomes for Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, Mr. Wale Edun, who served as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, has been directed to hand over his responsibilities. Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, previously the Minister of State in the same ministry, has been elevated to assume the position of the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is also affected by these changes. The outgoing minister, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, is to vacate his position. In his place, Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as a ministerial nominee and minister-designate, pending the necessary confirmation processes. Mr. Dangiwa has been directed to transfer his responsibilities to the Minister of State in the interim.

All handover procedures for the outgoing ministers are mandated to be concluded on or before the close of business on April 23. SGF Akume emphasized that President Tinubu exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in approving these changes. The President also commended the outgoing ministers for their dedicated service and wished them success in their future endeavors, assuring that efforts to reinvigorate the cabinet would remain an ongoing process.
