Tinubu's 2027 Presidential Bid: APC Gears Up, Endorsements Pour In

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is actively strategizing for the 2027 general elections, demonstrating a strong emphasis on internal cohesion, democratic processes, and grassroots mobilization. A significant development in this regard is the widespread affirmation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party's presidential candidate and the declaration of support for Governor Ahmad Aliyu as the governorship candidate for Sokoto State.

Nationwide direct primaries were conducted across the party’s 8,809 wards to formally select its presidential candidate, an exercise that witnessed a massive turnout of party members. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu secured overwhelming victories and endorsements in these primaries, largely unchallenged. The results of these nationwide primaries are slated for official announcement by the APC Presidential Primary Election Committee, chaired by former Senate President Pius Anyim, at the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja. The contest primarily involved President Tinubu and his challenger, Stanley Osifo, with results being collated from APC governors and party leaders serving as coordinators across various states.

Reports from several states monitored during the primaries underscored the peaceful, orderly, and highly participatory nature of the exercise. In Ondo State, early voting and peaceful conduct were observed across all 203 wards. Representative Derin Adesida described the process as well-organised and transparent, reflecting strong support for President Tinubu. Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who served as the state's Returning Officer, commended the direct primary format for enabling broad participation and strengthening internal democracy. The state's Director of Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro, confirmed transparent collation procedures up to the national level.

In Plateau State, the National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, declared that the massive turnout was a clear indication of the party's growing grassroots acceptance and internal democratic strength. After participating in his Dungung Ward, Yilwatda emphasized the "organic" support for President Tinubu and the party, noting that the conduct further deepened democratic participation. He expressed confidence in the APC's ability to secure victory in 2027, attributing it to the party's penetration into rural communities and the appeal of the "Renewed Hope" agenda. While acknowledging grievances from the primaries, Yilwatda affirmed the party's established mechanisms for reconciliation to ensure unity.

Kaduna State also saw APC members affirm President Tinubu as the party’s presidential candidate. Governor Uba Sani commended party leaders and members for the turnout and orderly conduct, describing it as a strong demonstration of unity, loyalty, and confidence in President Tinubu's leadership. Similarly, in Katsina State, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda expressed confidence in President Tinubu securing a second term, citing massive grassroots support witnessed during the ward exercises.

Specific results from various states further highlighted President Tinubu's dominant performance. In Delta State, he secured 407,646 votes out of 467,815 registered members, with his challenger Stanley Osifo polling zero votes, as announced by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. Gombe State witnessed a landslide victory for Tinubu, who garnered 450,517 votes against Stanley Osifo's zero, according to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya. In Bayelsa State, Tinubu polled 277,192 votes across the eight local government areas, with Governor Douye Diri describing the exercise as peaceful and successful. In Enugu State, President Tinubu emerged as the sole aspirant, and the process across the 260 wards was observed to be peaceful and orderly, with members commending its transparency.

Parallel to the national affirmation, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, the APC Leader in Sokoto State, formally declared his unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmad Aliyu. Wamakko made this declaration during the formal affirmation of Governor Aliyu as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 elections at the party’s state secretariat in Sokoto. He lauded Governor Aliyu’s people-oriented leadership, highlighting its focus on delivering democratic dividends, sustaining development projects across key sectors, and reflecting inclusiveness and balanced development throughout Sokoto State. Wamakko also praised the governor’s loyalty to the APC, which he stated strengthened trust among party members.

Reflecting on the party’s internal dynamics, Wamakko commended APC stakeholders for their discipline and unity, noting that the consensus-driven candidacy of Governor Aliyu exemplified political maturity. He asserted that internal cohesion is crucial for sustaining stability and ensuring continued progress in governance. Wamakko also offered a unique perspective on post-2023 political realignments, stating that defections from the APC ultimately strengthened the party by prompting reorganization, rebuilding trust among supporters, and reinforcing its grassroots structure. He expressed strong confidence that a united and committed APC is well-positioned to secure victory at all levels in the 2027 general elections and urged continued support for the administration’s development agenda.

The conclusion of these primaries and affirmations across the nation has imbued APC stakeholders with renewed optimism, reaffirming their collective commitment to strengthening the party’s political base and advancing governance delivery ahead of the crucial 2027 election cycle.
