The 'Scary Movie' Trilogy Is Streaming Free on Tubi

Published 1 month ago3 minute read

The trilogy, written by and , is now streaming free on Tubi, and no, this is not an April Fools' joke. In Tubi's monthly press release, they reveal what all have been waiting for: "What's Coming to Tubi" each month, and the streaming service didn't disappoint with their April list. Scary Movie, Scary Movie 2, and Scary Movie 3 are available to binge amid recent reports that a sequel is coming in 2026. Marlon Wayans told People Magazine that Scary Movie 6 will keep the same tone as the first, which received mixed reviews when the parody horror hit theaters in 2000, but remains a classic to fans.

During the interview, Wayans said the gloves are coming off, and that the latest upcoming installment will be rated R. This comes as no surprise to fans who've watched Scary Movie become the standard for parody horror movies. Directed by Keenan Ivory Wayans, the film parodied all the classic horror gems such as Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Scenes that were originally scary in those movies were turned into hilarious moments. When you go on social media sites like X (formerly Twitter), Regina Hall's character (Brenda Meeks), gifs are often used as reactions to posts. The movie also stars Anna Faris, Jon Abrahams, Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Shannon Elizabeth, Lochlyn Munro, Dave Sheridan, and Cheri Oteri.

Wayans Brothers' 'Scary Movie' Reboot Lands a Theatrical Release Date

The next entry in the 'Scary Movie' franchise is slated for a summer 2026 release date.

Scary Movie's 2000 plot centers on Halloween night. Drew Decker (played by Carmen Electra) receives a threatening phone call while home alone. She's eventually chased outside into the streets by Ghostface (from Scream), and her father, distracted, hits her with his car before Ghostface finishes the job. If this sounds very familiar to you (without the "getting hit by her father's car" part), it's because Electra's character was based on Drew Barrymore's Scream character, Casey Becker. That's the recurring theme in Scary Movie. It mainly parodies Scream and viewers see Cindy Campbell (Anna Faris) as a not-so-smart version of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt, I Know What You Did Last Summer).

Sometimes critics can make or break a movie, especially when they have a following. When Scary Movie was released in theaters on July 7, 2000, it didn't receive raving reviews from critics. Most felt like the film had "tasteless humor." This did not deter moviegoers from spending their money on a ticket to see the Wayans brothers, who solidified themselves as a top family in comedy, in action. In fact, the movie had a budget of $19 million and grossed $278 million at the box office. It debuted at No. 1 during its opening weekend, which broke the record for the biggest opening weekend for any R-rated film. It was released later that year, in December, on DVD and VHS by Buena Vista Home Entertainment. Since Marlon Wayans confirmed that Scary Movie 6 will be just like the first, it wouldn't be shocking if it does just as well.
