The Rookie Stars Lisseth Chavez and Deric Augustine Hype Explosive New Season

The Rookie Season 8 is set for an explosive start, with John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), Bailey Nune (Jenna Dewan), and Nyla Harper (Mekia Cox) traveling to Prague to confront Monica Stevens (Bridget Regan) following her immunity deal in Season 7. While this trio embarks on an international mission, other members of the Mid-Wilshire division, including Celina Juarez (Lisseth Chavez) and Miles Penn (Deric Augustine), will be assisting from their base in Los Angeles.
Lisseth Chavez shared detailed updates on Celina Juarez's personal and professional life. Celina's relationship with Rodge (Zander Hawley) is not only continuing but thriving, even as it transitions into a long-distance dynamic, a theme Chavez believes many viewers will find relatable. Professionally, Celina has officially graduated from rookie status, a significant milestone marking her growth. This season will see her embracing increased responsibility, striving for a balance between her intuitive and spiritual nature, and developing essential emotional awareness and teamwork skills, overcoming previous challenges with communication and unpredictability in her approach to policing.
Deric Augustine provided insights into Miles Penn's character journey. Miles, who had previously struggled with dating, is now intensely focused on his career, with the ambitious goal of becoming 'the best cop in the world.' His long-standing friendship with his NFL player college friend remains strong. Miles continues his training under Tim Bradford (Eric Winter), learning to temper his 'cowboy instincts' by leaning into his intellect and the formal training he receives. Augustine clarified that while Miles interacts with all members of the team, Tim serves as his primary training officer, guiding his development from a background in a smaller division into the complexities of Los Angeles policing.
Both Chavez and Augustine playfully teased their characters' involvement in a 'Chenford' (Lucy Chen and Tim Bradford) matchmaking mission, alongside Angela. They described this endeavor as a blend of matchmaking and 'troublemaking,' where they collaboratively push the fan-favorite duo to 'take that leap' in their relationship, fulfilling what many viewers wish they could do to encourage the couple.
Season 8 promises heightened action and excitement, with both actors indicating that the show is 'leveling up' with more explosive sequences. Deric Augustine expressed his enjoyment in performing his own stunts, while Lisseth Chavez conveyed her awe at the constant new developments in every episode. She stated that this season is 'for sure the biggest season' yet, kicking off strong and continuously building momentum.
Despite missing the Prague trip, Chavez and Augustine brainstormed imaginative future international locations for their characters. Augustine expressed a desire to see Miles go to Africa, perhaps exploring Celina’s family heritage in El Salvador. Chavez, dreaming of a 'jungle' setting, enthusiastically suggested Brazil. They humorously envisioned a mission in the Amazon rainforest where Miles might fall in love with someone from a local agency while Celina is also on an undercover mission, despite Rodge's presence, showcasing their imaginative hopes for future global adventures for their characters.
