The Queen Is Back! Jill Scott Ends 11-Year Album Hiatus with 'To Whom This May Concern'

Grammy Award-winning R&B star Jill Scott has made a highly anticipated return to the music scene with her sixth studio album, "To Whom This May Concern." This marks her first album in over a decade, following her 2015 release "Woman," which impressively debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The news of her comeback was shared with long-suffering fans via a social media post on January 2nd, with the album officially dropping independently through her own Blues Babe imprint, distributed by Human Re Sources/The Orchard.
Scott clarified that her extensive absence from the spotlight was not due to a "creative block," but rather a "creative break." She explained to Billboard's Gail Mitchell that this period was essential for her to "live life" and experience personal milestones, including navigating perimenopause and raising a teenager. For Scott, creativity is an ever-present energy, but she needed to step back to replenish herself as a human being, distinguishing between her personal self and the public persona of "Jill Scott."
"To Whom This May Concern" arrived just in time for Valentine's Day, offering 19 tracks. The album is rich with collaborations, featuring an impressive roster of guest artists such as Ab-Soul, J.I.D., Tierra Whack, and Too $hort. The production credits are equally diverse, with contributions from esteemed talents like Adam Blackstone, Om’Mas Keith, DJ Premier, Camper, Andre Harris, Seige Monstracity, Trombone Shorty, Eric Wortham, DW Wright, and VT Tolan.
Throughout her illustrious career, Jill Scott has consistently demonstrated her artistic prowess, landing eight titles on the Billboard 200. This includes four top 10s and two chart-topping albums: "Woman" (2015) and "The Light of the Sun" (2011), both of which led the all-genres albums chart for a week. Her latest offering, "To Whom This May Concern," further solidifies her legacy as a profound and influential voice in R&B.
