The latest on Islanders-Noah Dobson contract talks
Islanders general manager Mathieu Darche is not pivoting to try to move Noah Dobson amid contract negotiations that have led to speculation about the defenseman’s future.
Though there’s still a lack of clarity about where things will end up with Dobson, who is a restricted free agent as of July 1, Darche said on a Zoom call Tuesday that he’s still attempting to get all of the club’s RFAs signed.
“I’ve been talking with the agents. It’s all just part of the process,” Darche said when asked about Dobson specifically. “Sometimes it takes time, sometimes it happens quick and it’s been, actually, with all four of the RFAs, it’s been a very cordial negotiation. We’re just going through the process. We all have our ideas of where the contracts will be and we’re working through it.”
Alexander Romanov, Simon Holmstrom and Max Tsyplakov are also pending restricted free agents, but Dobson has taken up most of the oxygen since Daily Faceoff reported last week that his camp’s initial ask was $11 million per year.
The Post has been unable to verify that number, but it’s clear Dobson is looking for a big payday, and it’s less clear whether the two sides will settle on a number that’s comfortable for both.
Moving Dobson, who has arbitration rights, does not sound like the preferred path for the Islanders.
With the draft and the start of free agency both looming, though, teams have been and will be calling Darche with interest in the 25-year-old.

“Phones are always busy during draft week,” Darche said. “There’s so many things going on. Teams are trying to sort out their cap or sort out different things, so teams always call, kicking tires on different things. That’s just regular, normal draft week chatter.”
Darche confirmed roles for newly hired assistant coaches Ray Bennettand Bob Boughner.

Bennett will run the power play while Boughner will coach defensemen and “probably run the penalty kill,” Darche said.
Ken Morrowwill keep his role running pro scouting, though new assistant general manager Ryan Bownesswill be in charge of player personnel.
“He’s been great,” Darche said of Bowness, who previously worked for the Senators as an AGM. “I’ve built a relationship with him over the years, I’ve seen his work. … He’s a good guy that’s going to complement our group.”
The Islanders announced a six-game preseason schedule that includes home-and-homes with the Flyers, Devils and Rangers.
The preseason opener is Sept. 21 against the Flyers at UBS, with the other two home dates being Sept. 26 against the Devils and Sept. 29 against the Rangers.
The preseason finale is Oct. 2 in Philadelphia.
