'The Last of Us' Season 3 Promises Game-Changing Twist to Challenge Fan Favorites!

Actor Gabriel Luna provided extensive updates on his roles in two highly anticipated series: HBO Max’s “The Last of Us” Season 3 and Prime Video’s “The Terminal List” Season 2, during an interview with Collider’s Steven Weintraub. Luna shared insights into the filming process, story developments, and fan interactions for both adaptations.

For “The Last of Us” Season 3, which is currently filming in Vancouver and is expected to return to HBO Max in 2027, Luna confirmed he would be reporting to set “soon.” He highlighted a significant perspective shift in the upcoming season, first hinted at in the Season 2 finale, “Convergence.” This change will see the focus shift to another main character, with Luna’s character, Tommy, evolving into a more adversarial figure, described as “kind of like the boogeyman” to other characters. Luna expressed excitement for this new dynamic, noting that after two years of being heroes, this twist mirrors developments in the game. He anticipates filming could last anywhere from three to five months, depending on the show’s massive scale and HBO’s production timeline. Regarding scripts, Luna explained that creator Craig Mazin delivers them progressively, yielding to Mazin’s brilliant and prolific pace. What he has read so far he describes as “absolutely incredible.” Luna also spoke warmly about the show’s dedicated fanbase, describing them as in-tune, empathetic, and family-oriented, often sharing personal stories about how the show resonates with their own family dynamics and themes of love, protection, and resilience.

Switching gears to Prime Video’s “The Terminal List” Season 2, Luna revealed that filming has concluded in Toronto and Morocco, with the show slated to premiere later this year. He shared an intriguing detail about how he secured the role of Freddy Strain, a fan-favorite character from Jack Carr’s books: the deal was brokered three years prior during a Christmas dinner with Chris Pratt, who is married to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s daughter, Katherine. Luna’s character, Freddy Strain, is introduced in the second novel and is depicted as a former SEAL Team Six member now working as a green badger for the CIA. Luna expressed his hope to do justice to the "incredible" and "beloved" character. He also detailed the show’s commitment to authentic action sequences, emphasizing an “80% real, 20% Hollywood” approach. This authenticity is achieved through collaboration with real Navy SEALs like Jared Shaw and Ray Mendoza, who help the cast navigate the genuine experience of war fighting. The cast, including Chris Pratt and Tom Hopper (from the prequel), contributes to the “20% Hollywood” aspect. Luna noted the growing universe of “The Terminal List,” supported by Jack Carr’s extensive bibliography, ensuring many more stories can be told about James Reece and his family. He credited showrunner Dave DiGilio and Amazon Prime for supporting the "big one" of a production.
