Terror in Amsterdam: Jewish School Rocked by 'Deliberate Attack' Explosion!

An explosion severely damaged a Jewish school in Amsterdam, an event the city's mayor, Femke Halsema, unequivocally termed a "deliberate attack against the Jewish community." The blast occurred early Saturday in a residential area on the south side of the city, causing limited damage to the school's outer wall, with no injuries reported. Police and firefighters responded swiftly to the scene. Mayor Halsema condemned the incident as a "cowardly act of aggression" and emphasized that "Jewish people in Amsterdam are increasingly confronted with antisemitism," which she deemed "unacceptable." She further expressed understanding for the "fear and anger of Jewish Amsterdammers," stressing that Amsterdam "must be a place where Jews can live safely."

CCTV footage captured a person placing the explosive device, and this is now a crucial part of the ongoing "large-scale investigation" by the police. Security measures at synagogues and other Jewish institutions in the Dutch capital had already been escalated following an overnight suspected arson attack at a synagogue in central Rotterdam on Friday. Later the same day, police arrested three men, aged 18 to 19, and a 17-year-old boy after stopping a suspicious car near another synagogue, with the driver matching a description of one of the Rotterdam perpetrators. While it remains unclear if these suspects intended to detonate another explosive or set fire to a different synagogue, police are appealing for witnesses. An unverified video showing an explosion near a building resembling the targeted Rotterdam synagogue circulated on social media, which police are also examining. No potential motive has been publicly given for the arrests or the attacks.

These incidents in the Netherlands align with rising global concerns about potential attacks against Jewish communities. This apprehension has intensified following joint US and Israeli strikes against Iran and Tehran's subsequent response. Further underscoring this trend, an explosion also caused a fire at a synagogue in Liege, Belgium, on Monday, indicating a broader regional pattern of aggression.
