Team USA Adds Billings and Burrell Ahead of FIBA Qualifiers

The U.S. women’s national basketball team has updated its roster for next week’s FIBA World Cup qualifiers in San Juan, Puerto Rico, adding Monique Billings and Rae Burrell. They replace Aliyah Boston and Sonia Citron, who are sidelined due to right lower extremity injuries.

Billings previously competed with the undefeated 2017 USA under-23 team at the Four Nations Tournament. Burrell will make her competitive debut for Team USA in this qualifier. They join rising stars Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and Paige Bueckers, as well as seasoned Olympic gold medalists Kahleah Copper, Chelsea Gray, Kelsey Plum, and Jackie Young. Bronze medalists from the 2024 Paris 3x3 games, Dearica Hamby and Rhyne Howard, and rookie Kiki Iriafen of the Washington Mystics complete the squad.

The team is led by Olympic coach Kara Lawson, supported by assistants Natalie Nakase, Nate Tibbets, and Stephanie White. Team USA will face Senegal, Puerto Rico, Italy, New Zealand, and Spain during the qualifier. With qualification for the FIBA World Cup in Berlin already secured (September 4–13), the squad is focused on maintaining its dominance and pursuing a fifth consecutive World Cup championship.
