Taylor Swift's Song Vanishes from Trump's TikTok: The Latest Musical Casualty

The White House TikTok account, affiliated with Donald Trump, has engaged in a consistent pattern of using Taylor Swift’s music to seemingly antagonize the pop superstar, an ongoing situation that has seen the removal of several of Swift's songs from the account's posts. This unusual dynamic intensified with a post on Wednesday, August 12, featuring clips of Donald Trump engaging in various activities, soundtracked by Swift’s vault track “I Bet You Think About Me.” The video was accompanied by the caption, “We know you think about us,” a direct reference to the song’s lyrics. By Thursday, August 13, the audio for this post had been muted, although the title remained tagged.

“I Bet You Think About Me,” co-written by Swift and Lori McKenna in 2011, was initially excluded from the original 'Red' album before gaining popularity as a “From the Vault” recording featuring Chris Stapleton, debuting at No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2021.

This incident is part of a series of similar actions by the Trump-affiliated account. Just the week prior, Team Trump had shared an edited clip of Donald and Melania Trump watching fireworks, set to Swift’s 2020 'Folklore' track “August.” Text superimposed on the video declared, “Mood because it’s August and Donald Trump is your president,” with the caption further adding, “I’m sure @Taylor Swift is going to be super excited we used her song! #taylorswift #maga #august.” By Friday, August 7, TikTok users across the United States reported that “August” had been removed from this post, displaying a message that the sound was unavailable.

Other instances of the White House TikTok account utilizing Swift’s music include a post featuring her song “Father Figure” and a 2025 video that leaned on her song “The Fate of Ophelia,” both of which have also since been scrubbed from the platform. Following these removals, the Team Trump account continued its antagonistic approach by using a live performance version of the title track from Swift’s 2012 album, 'Red'. This particular post included 'Red'-styled cover art, mockingly featuring Trump’s profile over the letters and a fake playlist titled “Red (Trump’s Version).” The caption for this post read, “Did you know Taylor Swift wrote a whole album about the color of the Republican Party.” Predictably, this sound was also subsequently wiped.

The tension between Trump and Swift dates back to 2018, escalating significantly after the singer endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. Trump's public response included a post on his Truth Social platform stating, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” More recently, the White House account continued its mockery by posting an altered photo of New York’s Madison Square Garden, the supposed venue for Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding on July 4. On the doctored MAGA image, the digital marquee of MSG was manipulated to read: “Trump Is Your President.”

Amidst these political maneuverings, Taylor Swift has been focusing on other significant achievements. On Tuesday, August 11, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame announced her induction into the contemporary songwriter/artists category as part of the Class of 2026. At 36 years old, her induction marks her as the youngest ever recipient of this honor, achieved in her first year of eligibility.
