Taylor Swift's Reign Continues: 'Showgirl' Album Dominates Billboard 200!

Taylor Swift's album, "The Life of a Showgirl," has achieved its tenth nonconsecutive week at the pinnacle of the Billboard 200 albums chart, specifically for the list dated December 27. The album garnered an impressive 104,000 equivalent album units in the United States during the week ending December 18, marking an 18% increase. This significant boost is largely attributed to sales generated from new color vinyl variants of the album, which were exclusively sold through Swift’s webstore and began shipping to customers, indicating strong fan engagement and a strategic sales approach.
With "The Life of a Showgirl" notching its tenth week at No. 1, Taylor Swift makes history as the first woman, and only the third act overall, to have at least four albums spend a minimum of ten weeks atop the Billboard 200 since the chart's regular weekly publication commenced in March 1956. Her previous albums to achieve this remarkable feat include "The Tortured Poets Department" (which spent 17 weeks at No. 1 in 2024), "1989" (11 weeks in 2014-15), and "Fearless" (11 weeks in 2008-09). In total, only nine acts, including Swift, possess at least two albums that have spent at least 10 weeks at No. 1. This elite group comprises The Beatles, Elvis Presley, and Swift (each with four such albums); Whitney Houston and The Kingston Trio (each with three); and Adele, Henry Mancini, The Monkees, and Morgan Wallen (each with two).
A closer look at "The Life of a Showgirl's" 104,000 equivalent album units earned in the latest tracking week reveals that album sales contributed 55,000 units (a 43% increase), securing its steady position at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart. Streaming equivalent albums (SEA) accounted for 48,000 units (a 4% decrease), equating to 63.06 million on-demand official streams of the album’s tracks, causing it to move from fourth to sixth place on Top Streaming Albums. Track equivalent albums (TEA) comprised 1,000 units (a 3% decrease). Beyond adding a fourth career 10-week Billboard 200 leader, Swift also achieved back-to-back full-length albums with at least 10 weeks at No. 1 for the first time, with "The Life of a Showgirl" following "The Tortured Poets Department." Only six acts, including Swift, have ever notched consecutive No. 1s that ruled for at least 10 weeks: Morgan Wallen (with "I’m the Problem," 12 weeks, 2025; "One Thing at a Time," 19 weeks, 2023-24; and "Dangerous: The Double Album," 10 weeks, 2021); Adele ("25," 10 weeks, 2015-16, and "21," 24 weeks, 2011-12); Whitney Houston ("Whitney," 11 weeks, 1987, and her self-titled album, 14 weeks, 1986); The Monkees ("More of the Monkees," 18 weeks, 1967, and their self-titled album, 13 weeks, 1966-67); and The Kingston Trio ("String Along," 10 weeks, and "Sold Out," 12 weeks, both in 1960).
Elsewhere on the latest Billboard 200, Morgan Wallen’s chart-topping "I’m the Problem" maintained its position at No. 2, earning just over 73,000 equivalent album units (a 1% decrease). Debuting strongly at No. 3 is 21 Savage’s new project, "WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STREETS?", which also earned 73,000 equivalent album units. For 21 Savage's album, SEA units accounted for 48,000 (equaling 65.83 million on-demand official streams), leading to its debut at No. 5 on Top Streaming Albums. Album sales comprised 25,000 units, resulting in a No. 5 debut on Top Album Sales, while TEA units contributed a negligible sum. The album was announced on December 8 and released on December 12. It was issued as a widely available 13-song digital download album, alongside a 14-track download and streaming edition featuring "Mr. Recoup" with Drake, and a 14-track CD edition including "Trust Nobody" with INK. The CD was exclusively available via 21 Savage’s webstore in five variants, including a signed edition and four versions with alternate cover art. This new set marks 21 Savage’s seventh top 10-charted title on the Billboard 200, all of which have reached the top five.
The "KPop Demon Hunters" soundtrack descended from third to fourth place, with 71,000 equivalent album units earned (a 6% increase). It continues its impressive run, spending its 26th consecutive week in the top 10. The last soundtrack to tally at least 26 weeks, or half a year, in the top 10 was Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s "A Star Is Born," which also spent its first 26 weeks on the chart in the top 10 (including one week at No. 1) during 2018-19. Meanwhile, a record-tying six holiday albums currently decorate the top 10, a feat most recently observed on the January 4, 2025-dated list and first occurring on the January 5, 1959, chart. Michael Bublé’s former No. 1 "Christmas" shifted from fourth to fifth place with 69,000 equivalent album units. Other holiday titles in the top 10 include Bing Crosby’s "Ultimate Christmas" (dipping 5-6 with 66,000 units, up 1%), Nat King Cole’s "The Christmas Song" (pushed down 6-7 with 55,000 units, up 9%), Vince Guaraldi Trio’s "A Charlie Brown Christmas" soundtrack (steady at No. 8 with 50,000 units, up 3%), the multi-artist "A Christmas Gift for You From Phil Spector" (stationary at No. 9 with 48,000 units, up 12%), and Mariah Carey’s "Merry Christmas" (jingling back to the top 10, rising 11-10 with 46,000 units, up 11%).
The Billboard 200 chart comprehensively ranks the most popular albums of the week in the United States, based on a multi-metric consumption system as measured in equivalent album units, meticulously compiled by Luminate. These units are comprised of album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit is defined as one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported on-demand official audio and video streams, or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new December 27, 2025-dated chart will be published in its entirety on Billboard’s website on December 23. Luminate, the independent data provider for the Billboard charts, conducts a thorough review of all data submissions utilized in compiling the weekly chart rankings, authenticating the data and removing any deemed suspicious or unverifiable, using established criteria, before the final chart calculations are made and published.
