Taylor Swift's Reign Continues: ARIA Chart Double with 'The Life of a Showgirl'

Pop megastar Taylor Swift continues her unrelenting domination of the Australian music scene, claiming both top spots on the latest ARIA Charts released Friday, November 7. Her album The Life Of A Showgirl (Republic/Universal) holds firm at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart for a fifth consecutive week, while her single “The Fate Of Ophelia” remains atop the ARIA Singles Chart for the same period. This marks Swift’s 13th No. 1 single in Australia and with five weeks at the summit, it becomes her second-longest chart reign, trailing only her 2022 anthem “Anti-Hero.”

Beyond Swift’s chart dominance, this week’s ARIA Albums Chart saw a number of noteworthy shifts and debuts. British alternative pop ensemble Florence + The Machine stormed into the rankings with Everybody Scream (Polydor/Universal), landing impressively at No. 4. The entry reaffirms the band’s enduring popularity in Australia, with all six of their albums reaching the ARIA Top 10. Two of those Ceremonials (2011) and How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful (2015) previously claimed the top spot. Their continued presence reflects the group’s artistic consistency and passionate following.

Veteran Australian musician Bernard Fanning, frontman of legendary rock group Powderfinger, has also re-entered the spotlight. His acclaimed solo debut Tea & Sympathy (Dew Process/Universal) returns to the ARIA Top 10 at No. 7 following its 20th-anniversary reissue. Originally a chart-topper in 2005, the album’s renewed success underscores its timeless resonance. Fanning currently leads the Australian Albums, Vinyl, and On Replay charts, reaffirming his lasting influence. His recent showing in triple j’s Hottest 100 of Australian Music with four entries, including “Wish You Well” at No. 57 further cements his place among the country’s most enduring artists.

Western Australia’s rising rock band Cloning achieved the week’s highest local debut with Vitriol (GYRO), entering at No. 12. The release precedes a national tour slated for later this month, solidifying their emergence on Australia’s live circuit. Meanwhile, British rock icons Radiohead made a surprise appearance with Hail To The Chief: Live Recordings 2003–2009 (XL) debuting at No. 15. The album follows their 2023 studio record of the same name, which peaked at No. 2, and arrives just ahead of the group’s upcoming U.K. tour dates.

Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams makes her mark with Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party, entering at No. 24. Released independently, the project compiles tracks previously shared across her social media and streaming platforms earlier this year. Close behind, indie rock outfit the Belair Lip Bombs hailing from Frankston, Victoria score their first-ever ARIA appearance at No. 25 with Again (Third Man Records/RK). Their achievement is particularly significant, as they are the first Australian act signed to Jack White’s Third Man Records, joining an international roster that includes The Raconteurs and The White Stripes.

Further down the chart, Brisbane nu-metal newcomers Headwreck break through with their debut Attitude Adjustment (Ditto), entering at No. 43. Though narrowly missing the Top 40, the entry marks a promising milestone for the heavy act, who have been building buzz through the Australian underground scene.

On the ARIA Singles Chart, some movement shook up the rankings beneath Swift’s continued rule. Psychedelic rock project Tame Impala climbed sharply as “Dracula” (Columbia/Sony) leaped from No. 50 to No. 37, its highest peak yet and the only Australian track in the upper tiers this week. The sole new entry comes from British singer Lily Allen, whose provocative new single “Pussy Palace” (BMG) debuts at No. 50, adding a pop-culture punch to the list.

As the year winds down, Taylor Swift’s unprecedented streak reinforces her dominance not just globally but within Australia’s fiercely competitive music market. With The Life of a Showgirl maintaining its grip on both charts, Swift continues to define the standard for success in the modern pop era and her latest ARIA triumph shows no signs of slowing.
