Taylor Sheridan's $84.9 Million Neo-Western Becomes Streaming Sensation

Taylor Sheridan, a prolific creator, has recently concluded the second season of his series Landman, yet fan engagement with his broader body of work remains high. This sustained interest has notably propelled his 2015 neo-Western crime thriller, Sicario, into the global VOD top 10 on Apple TV in over ten countries. For audiences in America, Sicario is currently available for streaming on Peacock, with options to rent or purchase on other VOD platforms like Prime Video for those without a subscription.

Sicario, which marked Taylor Sheridan's feature screenwriting debut, stars Josh Brolin and Emily Blunt, who portrays Kate Macer, a by-the-books FBI agent. Macer is recruited into a government task force to combat the escalating war on drugs along the U.S.-Mexico border. Her moral compass is quickly challenged as she discovers the task force's willingness to employ extreme and ethically questionable methods to achieve their objectives. The film garnered significant critical acclaim, earning an impressive 91% from critics and 85% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, solidifying its reputation as one of Sheridan's finest works.

The film was directed by Denis Villeneuve, who subsequently embarked on a series of critically successful films including Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, and both Dune movies, and is slated to direct the next James Bond film for Amazon. Sicario also spawned a sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, released in 2018, which saw the return of Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro, though Emily Blunt did not reprise her role. Jon Bernthal also had a small part in the original film, which was released on September 17, 2015, and has a runtime of 122 minutes.

Beyond the ongoing success of Sicario, Taylor Sheridan continues to expand his acclaimed Yellowstone universe. Paramount recently unveiled the first official images for The Madison, a new Yellowstone sequel series featuring Kurt Russell and Michelle Pfeiffer. This highly anticipated show is scheduled to premiere on March 14 and has already secured an early renewal for a second season, indicating strong confidence from the studio.

Another Yellowstone offshoot, titled Marshals (previously known as Y: Marshals), is also set to debut soon, with a premiere date of March 1—two weeks prior to The Madison. This series will follow the character of ex-Navy SEAL Kayce Dutton, played by Luke Grimes, as he embarks on a new path, leaving the Yellowstone ranch to join the U.S. Marshals. The rapid succession of these spin-offs underscores Sheridan's significant influence and the continued expansion of his storytelling universe.

With Sicario experiencing a global resurgence and multiple new Yellowstone series on the horizon, Taylor Sheridan's creative output remains a central focus for fans and critics alike. Audiences are encouraged to watch Sicario on Peacock in America and stay informed about these exciting developments.
