Super Eagles Scandal Deepens as Amas Obasogie Admits Missteps
Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie has publicly responded to his three-month suspension by Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars over alleged match-fixing.
Amas has firmly denied any wrongdoing and insisting that his mistakes on the pitch should not be misinterpreted as deliberate misconduct.
He emphasized that he has never been involved in such activities at any point in his professional career.
Obasogie revealed that the accusations surfaced immediately after a match where he made a few mistakes, which were subsequently misinterpreted by some officials as suspicious.
He recounted his surprise to Footy Africa, stating, “I was surprised by the allegations. After the game, I was accused of match-fixing simply because I made a few mistakes.
I received the letter and was shocked. However, God is in control, and I believe I will come out of this stronger.”
The former Bendel Insurance Goalkeeper unequivocally denied any wrongdoing, asserting that his conduct as a professional footballer speaks for itself.
He added, “I don’t have any issues with anyone within the club. I am a peaceful person, a true professional, and disciplined. That’s why I don’t understand these allegations. I have never been involved in match-fixing in my career.”
According to the statement, the measure was taken to allow for a thorough investigation without internal or external interference.
While the allegations concern suspected match-fixing, the club clarified that no formal charges have been filed at this stage.
Obasogie remains confident that he will successfully clear his name and return to action once the ongoing investigation is concluded.
