Stunner! Minnows Bodo/Glimt Humiliate Manchester City in Shock Upset
)
The challenges continue to intensify for Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City side after a comprehensive Champions League defeat to Bodø/Glimt, coming just days after their loss in the Manchester derby. The 3–1 result marked Bodø/Glimt’s first victory of the 2025/26 Champions League campaign and underlined a dominant display against a City team that finished the match with ten men.
The decisive moment arrived midway through the second half when Ballon d’Or winner Rodri was shown a red card, compounding City’s difficulties. The defeat leaves Guardiola’s side on a worrying run of two consecutive losses and without a win in their last five Premier League and Champions League fixtures, highlighting a clear downturn in form.
Missed Chances and Ruthless Punishment
City’s trip to Norway posed multiple challenges, including freezing conditions, an artificial pitch, and the lingering disappointment of their derby defeat to Manchester United. Despite this, Guardiola’s team started assertively and should have taken an early lead. Max Alleyne squandered a golden opportunity, inexplicably heading over from six yards out after being left unmarked from a Phil Foden corner.
That miss proved costly. Bodø/Glimt struck against the run of play when Ole Didrik Blomberg delivered an inviting cross for Kasper Høgh, who powered a header into the far corner. City were visibly unsettled, and moments later Blomberg again exploited space, cutting the ball back for Høgh to calmly finish his second, doubling the hosts’ lead.
Red Card Ends City’s Hopes as Bodø/Glimt Dominate
Manchester City’s frustration continued before the break as Erling Haaland failed to convert from close range. Guardiola resisted making changes at half-time and was briefly spared when Håkon Evjen’s goal was ruled out for offside. That reprieve was short-lived, however, as Jens Petter Hauge produced a superb solo effort to make it 3–0 and effectively seal the contest.
Rayan Cherki offered a fleeting glimmer of hope with a swift response, but Rodri’s dismissal moments later extinguished any realistic prospect of a comeback. Bodø/Glimt controlled the closing stages with confidence, sealing a significant 3–1 victory that strengthens their Champions League play-off ambitions.
For Manchester City, the result raises serious concerns. With the prospect of finishing outside the top eight now looming, Guardiola’s side faces mounting pressure to arrest a troubling slide in form.
