Study Reveals Benefits of Specialized Care for Colorectal Cancer Patients

Published 1 month ago2 minute read

A recent randomized controlled trial investigated the profound impact of specialized care provided by gastrointestinal endoscopy centers on the psychological state and pain levels of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. The study, published online in the World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology on June 15, 2025, highlights the critical role of systematic nursing interventions in improving patient well-being.

The research, titled "Effect of gastrointestinal endoscopy center care on the psychological state and pain level of colorectal cancer patients," was conducted by a collaborative team. Key contributors include Yu-Hong Dai from the Gastroenterology Endoscopy Center of Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture People's Hospital, Shi Lang Zhuo-Ma from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at People's Hospital of Luding County, and Yu-Hua Luo from the Department of Nursing at Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture People's Hospital, all located in Sichuan Province, China.

The findings of this study are particularly significant. It was observed that systematic nursing care delivered within the gastrointestinal endoscopy center setting led to a significant reduction in patient anxiety, as measured by the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale, and depression, assessed using the Self-Rating Depression Scale. Furthermore, patients experienced a notable decrease in their pain levels, as indicated by the Visual Analogue Scale. Beyond these measurable improvements, the specialized nursing care also played a crucial role in enhancing patient compliance with treatment protocols and increasing overall satisfaction with their care.

The authors, including Yu-Hong Dai who also handled research design, funding acquisition, data analysis, and ethical review, affirmed that all procedures adhered to strict ethical guidelines. The research was reviewed and approved by the Institutional Review Board of Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture People's Hospital. Written informed consent was obtained from all study participants or their legal guardians prior to registration, ensuring patient rights and data privacy were upheld. The manuscript was meticulously prepared and revised according to the CONSORT 2010 statement, reflecting a commitment to transparent and rigorous reporting.
