State braces for temp surge before mid-Feb relief | Ranchi News - The Times of India
Ranchi: Jharkhand would experience a rise in daytime temperatures over the next three days, followed by a slight dip, the Ranchi office of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.
The head of IMD-Ranchi, Abhishek Anand, said, "Both maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to increase by three to four degrees Celsius compared to Saturday's readings. Temperatures will begin soaring by February end, marking the onset of summer. However, relief is expected from February 18, as moderate precipitation is likely due to an induced cyclonic circulation over northwest Rajasthan and adjoining areas of South Punjab and Pakistan. Even without rain, cloudy conditions will provide respite from the increasing heat."
As temperatures rise, residents are preparing for the weather change. A tea stall owner on Circular Road, Dev Narayan Pandit, said, "The temperature was higher on Saturday compared to previous days. We'll stay hydrated with electrolyte-rich fluids and install umbrellas or solar screens for protection from direct sunlight."
Saturday's IMD weather bulletin reported temperatures exceeding 30°C in several cities. While Ranchi recorded 26°C, Jamshedpur registered 31.4°C, marking a 2.3°C departure from normal. Daltonganj, Bokaro, and Chaibasa recorded 30.2°C, 30.1°C, and 33.4°C, respectively. The 24-hour bulletin indicated dry weather conditions across the state. Saraikela automatic weather station (AWS) recorded the highest maximum temperature at 34.5°C, while Khunti-AWS reported the lowest minimum at 6.9°C.
The temperature variations reflect a transitional period as the region moves from winter to summer. While the immediate forecast suggests a temporary increase in temperature, the expected mid-February weather system could provide a brief respite before the onset of summer.
