Standard Gauge Railway revenue (Sh bn)
Revenue generated by Kenya's Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), segmented into freight and passenger services, has generally trended upwards.
In 2019, freight revenue was Sh13.01 billion, while passenger revenue was significantly lower at Sh1.72 billion.
Both categories saw a decrease in 2020, with freight at Sh10.46 billion and passenger at Sh0.9 billion.
However, revenue recovered in subsequent years. By 2023, freight revenue reached Sh14.69 billion and passenger revenue increased to Sh2.94 billion.
The latest figures for 2024 show freight revenue at Sh13.98 billion and a substantial rise in passenger revenue to Sh4.1 billion, indicating growing utilisation of the SGR for both goods and passenger transport.
