Spring Break Trip, now a Memory ~How We Got Home ~ Kansas City for the Win
We’ve been home for two weeks now, however I still want to tell you about
this year’s side excursion on our way home.
We like to take an extra day of travel to enjoy the wonderful
attractions that our country has to offer.
Our first stop…Buc-ees!
Can’t drive past a Buc-ees without stopping in for fuel,
clean restrooms, souvenirs, gifts, and snacks.
Over the recent years, we’ve experienced the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,
the Ark Encounter, Niagara Falls, Branson, Field of Dreams, Fall Foliage,
a Fireworks Show, three Brewery Tours, and more.
When we discovered that the Minnesota Twins were playing the Kansas City Royals,
it was obvious that we needed to spend an extra night in KC.
Arrowhead Stadium and Kaufman Stadium are side by side.
Our hotel was across the street with a view of the complex,
home to The Chiefs and The Royals.
It was convenient to leave our vehicle parked and walk to the game.
After the game, we took the advice of locals
and snacked on authentic Kansas City-Style Barbecue.
Day Two started Downtown at the Crown Center.
There’s something for everyone there…
Theatres, Hallmark Visitor’s Center, Legoland, Hands-on Art Studio,
Kansas City Aquarium, a WWI Museum,
along with many delightful shops.
Save all your receipts and if you spend enough, parking is free.
Attached to the Crown Center is the Weston Hotel,
featuring an indoor waterfall.
It was a short walk from the Crown Center to the Union Station.
Beautiful architecture with much history.
We ate there at Harvey’s Restaurant.
The family opened this Harvey House, in Kansas City, in 1914.
The company was founded in 1876 to cater to the growing number
of train passengers. At one time there were 47 Harvey House restaurants.
We were seated in their balcony with a great view
of the charming interior of the Station.
Originally, the restaurants were staffed by single,
intelligent women, 18-36 years of age, with “good character”.
Harvey Girls were dressed modestly and not allowed to flirt.
Back at the hotel, we donned our Twins attire,
and walked across the (busy) street to the Stadium.
It was a beautiful evening for America’s Favorite Pastime.
We had great seats right behind the Twins Dugout,
along with several other enthusiastic Twins Fans.
While Kansas City Won the Day…
The Twins Won the Game!
Thanks for the Memories.
Kansas City, we’ll be back!
Take care,
~Natalie
