The altercations involved hooligans from both sides, with reports of punches thrown, objects including glasses, chairs and wheelie bins thrown, with property damage.

The incidents began with verbal insults escalating to physical violence, including one fan being knocked down.

However, a spokesman for the force confirmed to the Mirror the morning after, that so far no arrests had been made in either San Sebastian or Bilbao, where boisterous Spurs fans were seen destroying two traffic lights.

“In relation to the incidents arising out of the celebration of the Europa League final we have no information on any serious occurrences. No-one has been seriously injured and there have been no arrests so far.

“It’s true there was a fight in San Sebastian’s Old Town which started for reasons that are still being investigated and which involved the throwing of missiles by two rival groups. But that incident didn’t lead to any arrests.”

Spanish authorities are implementing measures to combat crowd trouble, with Bilbao expecting up to 70,000 fans for the match at San Mamés.

There was also fighting between two groups of supporters at a bar in the port city of Santander an hour’s drive west of Bilbao.

A video taken from the Siboney Cafe showed a group of young Man Utd fans goading two Spurs supporters believed to be a father and son.

One stuck his middle finger up at the pair as he walked by them, then it turned sour, violence erupted, with a second older man thought to be related to one of the youngsters who had been goading the Spurs supporters got involved.

The same group of Man Utd fans were also blamed for another fight shortly afterwards in a nearby bar called Tribeca.

“We responded to the incident at Siboney Cafe but when officers reached the scene there was nothing and none of those involved in the fight were present.

“We haven’t received any formal complaint from anyone and we’re not aware anyone was seriously injured in the incident.

“Last night was very quiet in Santander with no arrests linked to disturbances arising out of the Europa League celebrations to report.”

Ambulances did arrive at the scene, with a number of fans needing treatment.

: Just go to a nice European city in the sun, have a few beers, sing some songs and enjoy yourselves….. what is the point in fighting? it’s pathetic! 🤷‍♂️

: Bellends travel all that way to fight in a beautiful city – wtf is wrong with these twats. Fighting because they support different sides I’ll never understand it

: Embarrassing, go and have a good drink in the sun & enjoy a few days in the sun in lovely Spain with your mates watching a European cup final – absolutely no need for this 💩

: Hate this so much honestly. Just get a beer and enjoy it man. So many knackers isn’t there. Completely pointless.

: Imagine coming home to your kids black and blue and explaining to them you were fighting with other grown adults over who’s football team is better. Embarrassing

: Grown men fighting over football will never not be pathetic.

: So embarrassing from both fans! We all love a bit of rivalry banter but to actually fight and smash peoples bars up is just wrong

: I will never understand this. Go and have a good time. I’d share a beer with any United fan. Laugh about how shit we both are. Not this.

: Can’t even blame it on the local ultras provoking them.

: Standard English abroad 🔔🔚’s

: Fucking idiots the lot of them.

: Well done you d1ck heads! Giving British clubs a bad name cos you can’t control your booze. I hope you get kicked out of Europe for it

: Really isn’t going to help the already poor representation and perception of English fans by foreign media and fans

: Nothing on this earth will make me laugh more than football fans starting to sing mid fight. blokes getting pint glasses launched at his head and his mates start chanting, that will scare them mate 😂😂😂😂

: Grown men. Although, keep your eye on the lad who takes his shirt off. At the front giving it the big un until someone throws a punch at him. Then he puts his shirt back on and fucks off.

: Right that’s it, abandon game. Null and void result. 😆

: Absolute fucking weapons. Shameful behaviour

: Absolute embarrassment, why can’t these people just enjoy the occasion! #mindless

@JoeRoche1348094: Absolute morons! Should be enjoying this, partying together etc let’s face it the rest of the season for both teams has been a shambles 🤡
