Leeds United are reportedly close to completing the signing of Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford in a deal worth an initial £40 million. The England international has attracted interest from Newcastle United, Chelsea and Aston Villa, but Leeds have emerged as favourites to secure his signature.
Trafford is keen to make the move in search of regular first-team football after making just four Premier League appearances for City last season.
The 23-year-old largely played a backup role behind Gianluigi Donnarumma at the Etihad Stadium, although he featured in both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals as Manchester City ended the campaign with two domestic trophies.
Leeds' interest comes after the departures of Karl Darlow to Manchester United and Illan Meslier to Arsenal, leaving the club in need of a new first-choice goalkeeper ahead of the new season.
Manchester City are expected to enter the transfer market for a replacement goalkeeper if Trafford's move is finalised. The club has also been busy securing the futures of several key players, with Abdukodir Khusanov signing a contract extension until 2031 and Phil Foden committing his future to the club until 2030, with an option for an additional year. New deals for Josko Gvardiol and Jérémy Doku are also reportedly close to being completed.
