Sophie Cunningham Reacts to Indiana Fever's Post After Return
Stephanie White and the Indiana Fever were excited to welcome back not just one but two key players for their Saturday showdown against the New York Liberty. Caitlin Clark, in her second WNBA season, returned from injury and put on a show, dropping 32 points with nine assists and eight rebounds in a game-changing performance.
While Clark’s return dominated headlines, another player’s comeback flew under the radar but made a massive impact. Sophie Cunningham, who hadn’t played since May 30 due to an ankle injury, suited up and contributed in a big way.
Cunningham scored just five points and grabbed four rebounds, but her presence was undeniable. She finished the game with a +31 plus-minus rating—the best of any player on the court.
After the win, Cunningham reacted to the Fever’s social media post celebrating her return, sharing it on her own Instagram account.
This is Cunningham’s first season with the Fever. She was drafted in the second round of the 2019 WNBA Draft by the Phoenix Mercury and spent six seasons with them before being traded to Indiana on January 31, 2025.
The veteran shooting guard played college basketball at the University of Missouri, where she earned third-team All-American honors as a senior. Before that, she was a McDonald’s All-American in high school.
The victory moved Indiana to 5-5 on the season. It was a statement win and a bit of revenge after the Fever lost a tight 90-88 game to the Liberty on May 24, the final game before Clark missed five contests due to injury.
The loss was the first of the 2025 season for New York. Despite the setback, Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu led all scorers with 34 points.
The Fever are back in action Tuesday night as they host the Connecticut Sun.
