Kalonzo Musyoka Dismisses Defection Rumors, Pledges Loyalty to Opposition

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has emphatically dismissed persistent reports and direct overtures suggesting he might join the ruling Kenya Kwanza government. His rejection comes in response to Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s public attempts to persuade him to abandon opposition politics, which Musyoka has consistently characterized as dishonest and a deliberate attempt to fracture the united opposition.
Musyoka's refusal to align with the government is rooted in his strong opposition to the handling of the 2024 Finance Bill protests, specifically citing the deaths of 'Gen Z' protestors, including Albert Ojwang. He stated, “This is all diversionary, and a poor attempt to divide the United Opposition. I cannot work with or meet up with people with Gen Z blood on their hands, including that of Albert Ojwang. Kenyans know the truth… I will always be on the side of the people.” He further challenged Kindiki, who served as Interior Cabinet Secretary during the protests, to apologize for the fatalities before attempting any political reconciliation.
