Sophia Sitati appointed Acting Registrar of Political Parties
Sophia Sitati has been appointed as the new Registrar of Political Parties in an acting capacity.
The office of the Registrar announced on Tuesday that Ms Sitati would take over the position immediately.
Ms Sitati, who previously served as Chief State Counsel at the Office of the Attorney General, now replaces Ann Nderitu after her appointment as an Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEВС) Commissioner.
“The ORPP is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Sophia Sitati as the Acting Registrar of Political Parties effective July 14, 2025,” stated the ORPP.
“Ms. Sitati has been seconded from the Office of the Attorney General, State Department for Justice & Human Rights and Constitutional Affairs, where she served as Chief State Counsel.”
Nderitu had served for more than seven years since her appointment in 2018.
Ms Sitati brings to ORPP a wealth of expertise and experience as a seasoned legal practitioner, having served in various portfolios in Government.
ORPP hailed Nderitu’s success throughout her tenure, saying she “laid ORPP's institutional foundation, such as human capital development, stakeholder engagements, legal and ICT reforms, capacity building of political parties officials and targeted Special Interest Groups.”
Nderitu’s transformation is also said to have ensured effective execution of the office’s mandate and progressed democratic governance in Kenya.
