Sonic 4's Shocking Production Wrap Reveals First Look at Metal Sonic!

Director Jeff Fowler has officially announced the wrap of filming for “Sonic the Hedgehog 4,” sharing the exciting news via X. Fowler, who has helmed all three previous installments of the popular live-action/CGI hybrid film series, expressed immense confidence in the upcoming movie, stating, “On behalf of this amazing cast/crew, we have filmed the BEST Sonic Movie yet and can’t wait to share.” His announcement was accompanied by a photo featuring himself in the director’s chair alongside a figure of Metal Sonic, the formidable evil robot whose appearance was teased at the end of the third film, strongly indicating its role in the new adventure.

While specific plot details for the fourth installment of the anthropomorphic speedster’s saga remain tightly under wraps, the film is set to feature an impressive ensemble cast. Ben Schwartz will once again lead as the voice of Sonic. The confirmed cast members include a host of returning stars and new additions: Jim Carrey, Kristen Bell, Idris Elba, Keanu Reeves, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Ben Kingsley, Matt Berry, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Lee Majdoub, Nick Offerman, and Richard Ayoade. This diverse talent pool promises to bring dynamic performances to the latest chapter of the beloved video game adaptation.

The “Sonic the Hedgehog” film franchise has been a massive commercial success for Paramount, collectively grossing over $1 billion at the global box office. The series has consistently exceeded expectations, with each installment building upon the success of its predecessor. The original “Sonic the Hedgehog” film, released in 2020, was a surprise hit, raking in $148 million domestically and $319 million globally, and at the time, set a new record for the highest-grossing video game adaptation in North America. Its 2022 sequel, “Sonic the Hedgehog 2,” surpassed it, earning $190 million domestically and $405 million globally.

Most recently, “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” which premiered in December 2024, has become the property’s highest-grossing entry to date, achieving $218 million domestically and $422 million globally. This consistent performance underscores the franchise's strong appeal to audiences worldwide. The collective achievement of surpassing $1 billion in worldwide box office receipts was celebrated earlier in January, solidifying the “Sonic” series as a major cinematic powerhouse. Fans eagerly awaiting the next adventure can mark their calendars, as “Sonic the Hedgehog 4” is slated for release on March 19, 2027.
